Thank You From the Editor
The second half of our Escapism Issue focuses on the imagination aspect. All of the photos in this collection focus on dreaming as a form of escaping everyday life. Dreams help to motivate and inspire people. Without dreams, hopes, and desires, what would be the point of life? These photos personally make me want to fall in love with life again.
Over the past year, we have grown so much as an organization, and there are so many people to thank for that.
Many thanks to Jen Finstrom. She has been here since the beginning and has counseled the board. She has given her positivity and encouragement that has made the magazine possible.
Many thanks to Olivia Snoddy for stepping up when I needed the most help in May. She is such an amazing addition to the board, and I am excited to see what we come up with this upcoming year.
Many thanks to Ashley Wilson for taking on random roles that needed to be filled.
Many thanks to Sophia Iqbal for her design insight.
Lastly, many, many thanks to the members who came to every meeting this past spring quarter. The club became quite small at the end, but every single member brought enthusiasm, great ideas, and fantastic, positive energy.

HEAD IN THE CLOUDS
-07 Crescent Magazine
Iwanted this shoot to feel like a little nap in the clouds at dusk, very literally playing into the imagination theme. Through set, editing, and styling I wanted to create a precious little version of what I imagine my dream nap would be. For styling, I made sure everything was sheer and floaty, dreamy and beautiful. Layers of pastel purples, blues, and pinks creating soft color dimension, with tulle melting into the tulle background. I added some lace gloves and jewelry for some extra texture and to take the style a level further than just a dreamy nap time.

Creating the background was a fun challenge, which involved draping layers of pastel tulle over a white bedsheet, and putting pillow stuffing on the floors to give the appearance of laying in the clouds. I cut out and painted stars and a moon a soft yellow to hang as well, wanting the set to give the appearance of something that a kid might create for a play.
I played around with putting my soft boxes on the floor to illuminate the models face and the “clouds”, and wanted the editing to carry on the style, putting light gaussian blurring effects to give it the appearance of an actual dream. This was one of my favorite shoots I’ve done, and really enjoy creating every detail myself and sticking heavily with a theme.

DREAMING OF DAISIES

When planning this shoot, I was thinking of the daydreams we have when we’re not supposed to. Through interweaving the professional aspects of a suit and slicked back hair with the natural landscape and flowers, the goal was to create an almost uncomfortable contrast.
A quote that I used as a major inspiration for this shoot is one from Morgan Harper Nichols that reads, “Even here, you are growing”. I know that sometimes, I get so stuck in the uncomfortableness of society that I forget that I’m human. Every day I am growing and changing and learning. Just because society expects me to stay stagnant doesn’t mean that I should.
