What DA Students Say: “The teachers at DA care about my learning and make every effort to make sure I understand what is being taught.” “It’s like one big family here at DA.” “I ran my fastest mile time with the DA Cross Country team last week!” “For the first time I was able to participate in sports like basketball and wrestling.”

What DA Parents Say: “The last year of public school, my son missed 45 days of school, the first year at DA he missed 2!” “We have found the right place for our intelligent, creative, athletic son!” “DA has gone out of their way to help our son to feel successful, to make sure he comprehends what is being taught, and to maintain communication with us.”

April 25, 2009 Dear Family and Friends of Denver Academy, This year I have experienced a wonderful immersion into the Denver Academy community. We have a beautiful and safe campus and an incredibly vibrant school family. Over the past nine months I have been inspired by the dedication and enthusiasm of our faculty, staff and Board of Trustees and have been graciously welcomed by DA’s incredible families and friends. So many people are dedicated to our long-term success and are generous in their support of our school. What impresses me most at Denver Academy are our remarkable students. They are resilient, optimistic, energetic, and creative. At Denver Academy each student has the opportunity to realize his or her particular strengths and learn within an innovative and differentiated program of studies. There are many children who would benefit from a DA education but are unable to afford it. With your attendance and generosity at our Gala you have helped ensure that more children needing a Denver Academy education will have this unique opportunity. Thank your for making a substantial difference in the lives of students and for supporting the mission of Denver Academy. Sincerely,

Kevin M. Smith Headmaster

Auction Procedures Guests will be encouraged to swipe their credit cards at check in. If no purchases are made, no charge will be made on your card. This will expedite your checkout process! After the event all credit card information will be deleted from our system. Please take time to familiarize yourself with the items in this catalog and mark those items you are most interested in bidding on. Items will be displayed on tables by category and can be identified by the item number. This catalog contains only those items available at the time of publication. Additional items may be available at the auction, so be sure to browse the tables and look at the catalog addendum available at the Gala check-in table. All payments must be made in full the night of the auction either by check (made out to Denver Academy), cash or credit card (VISA, MasterCard or American Express). If you are the highest bidder on any items that are taxable, the tax amount will be added to your receipt.

SILENT AUCTION

• Your bid number is located on the name tag you received at check in. Please use this bid number for ALL BIDDING and be sure to write your bid number and name clearly and accurately when placing a bid. • The Silent Auction begins at 5:30 p.m. Bidding will close by categories starting at 7:00 p.m. and ending at 7:20 p.m. • Each item will be accompanied by a bid sheet. When bidding write your bid number and name on the first available line on the bid sheet. A minimum bid and specified raises will be pre-printed on the bid sheets. • The highest legal bid, circled by the table captain at the close of that category, constitutes the winning bid. All efforts will be made to make this a fair process. This year we have some “share a bid” items. These are events where there are an identified number of tickets to attend and a set price. No bidding is required, just make sure to sign up to attend at the set price by adding your name and bid number to the event sheet before it is full. Your invoice will include the per person or per couple charge for the events you sign up for.

HOT STUFF BOARD

• The Hot Stuff Board, which highlights unique items, will be open from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. • To bid, ask a DA Student Volunteer to assist you. • The Hot Stuff final bidding will be expedited by a professional auctioneer. Don’t miss the excitement, starting at 7:30 p.m. and ending at 7:45 p.m.

LIVE AUCTION

• The Live Auction will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. following the video program. • Bids are made on an item by raising your hand and bid card. Spotters throughout the room will recognize your bid and bring it to the attention of the auctioneer. Don’t be shy! • Acceptance of the high bid becomes a binding obligation to purchase. The auctioneer will announce the close of bidding and the volunteers will bring an invoice to you immediately.

If your invoice says ‘Express Pay’ on the top, which indicates that you opted to swipe your credit card at the start of the evening, your payment is complete. When checkout opens proceed directly to item pick up. If you did not participate in the credit card swipe at check in, you must proceed to the cashier. After you have paid for your items, proceed to item pick up. • Two invoices will be given to you, which you will need to claim your items at the end of the evening. • Your purchased items will be available for pickup in the lobby after the live auction—but stay a while and dance!

SURPRISE BAGS

The $25 bags have a value of $25 or more and the $50 bags have a value of $50 or more. Surprise bag prizes will include gift certificates for restaurants, entertainment and services. The Surprise Bag purchase price will be added to your auction bill at checkout. Once purchased, the gift bag is yours to take home!

GENERAL

• ALL SALES ARE FINAL. There will be no exchanges on items except where specified. Please note specifications, expiration dates and limitations carefully before bidding on an item. Items not used will not be refunded. • All services, trips, gift certificates, parties and similar items must be used within one year of the event unless otherwise noted, and are subject to availability. Taxes, tips and alcoholic beverages are generally not included in restaurant gift certificates. • Every attempt has been made to catalog and describe the auction items correctly, but all items are sold “as is” with no warranties expressed or implied. No statement contained in the catalog or made orally at the Auction or elsewhere shall be deemed to be such a warranty, representation or assumption of liability. By purchasing, the buyer waives any claim for liability against either Denver Academy or the donor of the property or services and neither Denver Academy nor the donor of the property or services is responsible for any personal injury or damages to property that may result from the utilization of property or services sold. • If an item is sold for more than fair market value, the difference is deductible as a donation. Where it is not possible to establish a fair market value for one-of-a-kind items, the purchase price will be presumed to be the fair market value, and no part of the payment will be considered a contribution. Please consult your financial advisor. • We regret that items received after the publishing deadline could not be included in this catalog. An addendum will be distributed the night of the auction. • All items should be paid for and removed from the premises by the buyer by the close of the evening. Denver Academy, the Hyatt Corporation, nor any agent associated with DA Gala 2009 shall assume responsibility for items not claimed.
