Reflection on Lower Partial Denture Design
I
n response to requests from members for a technical review on partial denture design, we have sourced two initial short video sequences. These videos are specifically aimed at training dentists and providing them with the background knowledge to enable them to determine, from their patient diagnosis, radiographs, and appropriate surveying, the path of Insertion of the prosthesis, and to note the available undercuts, then move on to designing the case on paper. As dental technologists, you will have come across a few individual clinicians who spend
much time and effort designing such prosthetic cases, whilst often you are left to design such for yourselves. In these video sequences the presenter indicates two different designs and the fundamentals behind these for Kennedy Class 1 cases restored by removable prosthetic restorations. You can therefore reflect on your thoughts for such partial cases and consider other potential designs that you might propose backed up with sound reasoning. ● Firstly, look at the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=aw1B9vh5wjU (5 minutes); in this
case, a design is developed for the bi-lateral free end saddle case. ● The next video looks at a Kennedy Class 1 Modification 1: https://www.youtube.com /watch?v=UADljD8QkPQ (7 minutes) where not only are there two free end saddles but there are also the 31 and 32 teeth missing. By reviewing these short videos, you should be able to confirm your understanding by answering the ten online CPD questions and claiming your members FREE CPD certificate.
