Two vie for vacant Etown board seat

United Way starts campaign

By Keith Lobdell keith@denpubs.com ELIZABETHTOWN — In the wake of the resignation of Elizabethtown councilman Ken Fenimore, there will be a local election Nov. 6. Two candidates, Elizabethtown planning board member Evelyn Hatch and former councilman Michael McGinn, have filed petitions with the Essex County Board of Elections to fill the remainder of Fenimore’s term, which ends Dec. 31, 2013. “Whoever wins the election will have to run again next year since the term is expiring,” Supervisor Margaret Bartley said. “This election will fill the position for the remainder of the current term.”

ELIZABETHTOWN — The Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School Board of Education has narrowed its search for a new superintendent/principal to three candidates. Interim Superintendent A. Paul Scott said the board picked the three during its Sept. 19 meeting. “Roughly 20 individuals had expressed interest in

the position,” Scott said. “At the Sept. 19 meeting, the board selected three individuals from the candidate pool to be invited for a preliminary first round of interviews.” The school board is not releasing the names of the three candidates, but Scott said they will announce those at a later date. “We will have more information on the specific candidates during the additional rounds of inter-

views,” he said. Board president Brett Sicola said that all three candidates chosen by the board came with the qualifications, background and experiences they were seeking for the position. “They all came highly recommended and we feel that each is a potentially great fit for our district and community,” Sicola said. The three candidates will meet with the school board Sept. 26 for their first set of

interviews. Scott laid out the timetable for the rest of the interview process, including a set of early October second round interviews, which will include a committee of stakeholders representing various cross-sections of the school community, such as teachers and students. There will also be a third set of interviews during mid-October. CONTINUED ON PAGE 5
