ELIZABETHTOWN — Non-profits throughout the region will receive help from the state of New York in their continuing plight to recover from Tropical Storm Irene. The office of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced the grants, which were awarded to small businesses and notfor-profits in the North Country through the Business Flood Recovery Grant Program, part of 584 eligible entities that sustained direct, flood-related damage as a result of Tropical Storm Irene or Tropical Storm Lee. Overall, the entities will receive a total of $7.9 million in assistance through the Business Flood Recovery Grant Program. Empire State Development (ESD), the agency administering

shaun@denpubs.com ELIZABETHTOWN — People lined the streets Saturday afternoon, eagerly waiting for the E-town Day celebration to start. Once the parade began, the crowd became animated, buzzing with comments as the procession passed: “This is huge, like Grand Central in New York City.” “Class of 1962—that’s a long time ago.” “Look at the size of the sails on that ship!” The floats drifted by, a truck transformed into a pirate ship, a line of fire trucks representing every surrounding community and shiny cars from days gone by. Some people joined the march to advertise their business, some took part for fun and others did it for town pride. “I was born in Elizabethtown, and I love it here,” said Debbie Brooks, Elizabethtown’s town clerk.

Brooks marched with a group of friends who graduated high school together and now reside in locations as far flung as California, Florida and Massachusetts. E-town Day brings them all together, though. After the parade, the spectators made their way to Cobble Hill Golf Course for food and entertainment, which started at 4:30 with the Glens Falls-based band Marcüsumpa. Mark Rabin, guitarist and vocalist for the band, said it was Marcüsumpa’s third appearance at the event, and that they’ve already agreed to perform next year. “These events are different from playing in a bar because the expectations are different,” Rabin said. “There’s less to prove because the people are already here to have a good time, and hopefully we can enhance that.” The band Vontus, from Saratoga Springs, took the stage next, and fireworks followed at dusk.
