E L I Z A B E T H TO W N — A grant from the United State Department of Agriculture will give Elizabethtown Community Hospital and its regional health centers the chance to enhance their services with telemedicine. ECH CEO Rodney Boula said that the hospital recently received a grant for $136,000, which will be used to have telemedicine stations at each of the clinics run by hospital, including the recently purchased Smith House in Willsboro. “We will have a link to the emergency room and to each of the clinic sites,” Boula said. “Rather than have the patient come into the clinic and then have to go back out, get into the car and head to Elizabethtown, the doctors and emergency

Ida Atkinson celebrates 100th b-day ELIZABETHTOWN — Ida Atkinson and many friends and family celebrated her 100th birthday on Jan. 28 at the Elizabethtown Hospital. After about three months at the hospital, Atkinson’s friends from the Essex/Willsboro Senior Center, who have thrown her a birthday party every year for the past 15 years, surprised her with a birthday celebration.

“She was very surprised. She said, ‘I see you did it again,’” said Denis Everleft, site manager at the Essex/Willsboro Senior Center. “Then she told me she wants a bigger party for her 200th birthday.” Over 40 people attended Atkinson’s birthday party. Her friends came from the senior center and family members from around the area giving her flowers, cakes, cupcakes, and other gifts including a proclamation from Assemblywoman

Teresa Sayward and Essex County on her monumental birthday. “It was a really nice party,” Ada Hutchins said. “The Elizabethtown hospital did a great job helping to create a great party for Ida.” Atkinson was born Jan 28, 1912 at Trout Pond, in the town of Chesterfield. She is the daughter of Orrin and Susan McCann Rumney. Everleft described Atkinson as an independent, active and charismatic woman
