CROWN POINT Ñ The town of Crown Point may soon be without an ambulance service, which has the town supervisor concerned. Ò IÕ m not very happy about it,Ó Charles Harrington said about word the Crown Point ambulance service may be terminated Jan. 31 barring the hiring of a new medical director. “I know the EMT’s and fire commissioners have worked diligently to try and resolve this situation,Ó Harrington continued. Ò They thought they had found someone to do this but, for one reason or another, they backed out.Ó Captain James Thomsen of the A.E. Phelps Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance said the department, who receives about 120 calls per year, was at the point where it had to give a date to the New York State Department of Health when it would cease providing transports for the citizens of Crown Point. Ò We can still apply so we can have first responders as a department,Ó Thomsen said. Ò But we will no longer have the ambulance. The date is tentatively set for Jan. 31.Ó Thomsen said if a new medical director was hired, the town would be able to pull the notice and continue with services as usual. CONTINUED ON PAGE 10

Essex County Clerk’s office now online By Pete DeMola pete@denpubs.com

ELIZABETHTOWN Ñ Packed with parchments, leather-bound volumes and cabinets containing a trove of various antiquities, the Essex County ClerkÕ s Office is a portal into the past, a testament to the sacred days of the role of the clerk as the keeper of the archives. County residents seeking records are required to venture into the stacks to retrieve their desired infor-

mation, like a quest. That still holds true today. But starting on Jan. 5, Essex County Clerk Joe Provoncha will pull back the veil and start offering online access to a number of documents that have been recorded over time. Provoncha briefed lawmakers on Monday, Dec. 15 before they adjourned for holiday recess. Ò We are prepared to go online,Ó he told the supervisors, whose desks were festooned with jars of pickles and candy canes.
