Auxiliary taking names for annual Memory Tree

MORIAH Ñ New York State Police have identified the victim of a late afternoon hunting accident in the hills of Moriah. On Dec. 1 at approximately 4:30 p.m., State Police arrived at the scene of a hunting accident on Bartlett Pond Road in Moriah. Joseph Rodriguez, 83, of Mineville was shot in the abdomen by another hunter, who was using 12 gauge deer slugs. Rodriguez was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Plattsburgh where he was upgraded to stable condition Wednesday, Dec. 3. Trooper Jennifer Fleishman, Troop BÕ s Public Information Officer, said though she is not very familiar with the region, she knows that the scene of the crime is an extremely remote and wooded area. The name of the shooter has not yet been released, but Fleishman reports at some point in the near feature the name will become public information, she just cannot guarantee when. SCHROON Ñ The annual celebration of all things Christmas will again be held in the Schroon Lake community Saturday, Dec. 13. Ò The Christnas Celebration is a wonderful tradition, enjoyed by multiple generations coming together. It totally gets you in the spirit, watching the excitement on the childrenÕ s faces running from event to event,Ó event organizer Patti Mehm said. Ò The community involvement is wonderful, everything is 100

percent donated and so many come out to enjoy and support the festivities.Ó The Schroon Lake Community Church Bazaar will open festivities from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., with local crafts for sale along with a soup lunch. The Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce will be holding a Holiday Basket Raffle at the chamber offices with tickets being sold from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. The proceeds from the raffle will be donated to Schroon Lake programs to, Ò help make Christmas brighter for local residents.” Those participating in the basket raffle do not need to be present at the drawings in order to win.

The Craft and Underground Food Bazaar will take place from 2 until 5 p.m. in the basement of the Community Church, with local crafters, exhibitors and displays. After the sun goes down, festivities will begin with the lighting of the town Christmas Tree and caroling at Fountain Park starting at 5:30 p.m. There will also be a living Nativity walk procession to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, which will be followed by a Gospel reading.
