Pipeline from Vt. to IP debated at public forum
TICONDEROGA Ñ Despite an impassioned plea by the President of the workers union for the Ticonderoga Highway Department, two positions were cut as part of the adopted 2015 budget for the town. The cuts, made final at the Nov. 13 meeting of the town board, dropped the highway spending plan for 2015 to $1,742,120, the same amount that was adopted in 2014. In the preliminary budget, the highway called for a $383,451 increase in spending. The Chilson Volunteer Fire Department also saw an decrease between its preliminary figure of $59,755 and the adopted total of $52,492. While no one spoke from Chilson, Eric Senneville, President of the local union which represents the highway department, expressed his concerns to the board during the public comment time at the beginning of the meeting. Senneville attacked the study issued by the town to local media, calling it, “highly flawed, to say the least.Ó Ò Where does Hague, Crown Point or Moriah have 17 miles of sidewalks, Ò Senneville said. Ò In Moriah, the village plows the sidewalks. When you wanted to buy something for the department, you compared us to North Elba and Lake Placid. CONTINUED ON PAGE 8

DOT, Crown Point seek safety improvements for ‘bridge road’ By Keith Lobdell keith@denpubs.com
CROWN POINT Ñ Residents here want something to be done at what they feel is a dangerous intersection connecting Vermont and New York. Crown Point Supervisor Charles Harrington was presented with a petition from residents of his community wanting something to be done at the intersection of Route 185, the road leading to the Champlain Bridge between the two states, and Routes 9N/22. Ò We got the petition from the communtiy and I told them I would write a letter to the Department of Trans-
portation,Ó Harrington said. Ò I made the letter very concise and sent the petition with it.Ó The town heard back from Region 1 DOT Director Sam Zhou 10 days later. He stated the Region 1 Traffic Safety and Mobility office would be studying the intersection along with suggested modifications to the area. Ò I was really impressed with how quickly they responded,Ó Harrington said. Harrington said one of the biggest concerns at the intersection is line-of-sight, as both north and southbound traffic have blind approaches to the intersection. Ò You have large trucks coming to a complete stop as they are coming off the bridge and then starting up

again and people not seeing them in time,Ó Harrington said. Ò People coming north or south can be compromised.Ó Harrington explained further in his letter to the DOT. Ò As I travel South through this intersection, I am aware that persons who are entering 9N/22 from the bridge Road to proceed South have a very short period of time from which their visual observation signaled a safe entry and of which they must cross the northbound lane,Ó he scribed.
