Case suspected in Vermont By Keith Lobdell keith@denpubs.com
TICONDEROGA Ñ While this town on the shores of Lake Champlain is well away from Texas and a long drive from the New York metropolitan area, officials at Inter-Lakes Health have prepared its staff to be ready if Ebola makes its way to the Adirondacks. On Oct. 28, the Mayor of Rutland, Vt. announced a suspected Ebola case in a Rutland resident, who has since been moved into voluntary quarantine. Director of Support Services Tara Vilardo took the lead in preparing the staff at the medical center to receive and treat potential cases of the disease. Ò We were a step ahead of the new guidelines,Ó Vilardo said. Ò We were already training staff to protect themselves above and beyond the CDCÕ s initial guidance of a gown, single glove, goggles and surgical mask. We began our training with front line staff including Emergency Department staff, Nursing, Environmental Services, and Physicians.Ó Vilardo said the facility first started to think about the potential of Ebola in the North Country when the New York State Department of Health started to issue releases on Ebola Oct. 8. Ò They started pushing a lot of information which you did not see in the media or on the internet, so we had an idea Ebola was here,Ó she said. CONTINUED ON PAGE 10

‘Champ-o-Saurus’ debuts with familiar faces By Keith Lobdell keith@denpubs.com PORT HENRY Ñ Community members here packed the Moriah Central School auditorium Oct. 18 and Oct. 19 to see the latest movie premier from the collaborators behind Ò Mineville.Ó This time, it was a tale from the deep, as Lori Kelly and Joel Plue gave the local crowd a taste of their mock-u-mentary, Ò Champ-o-Saurus.Ó For Kelly, the movie was something that was not only personal for her, but for the community as well.
Ò Most everyone here was involved in one level or another,” she said. “When we filmed here before, we noticed it was such an active community and this was a nice way to get everyone together and use families and local residents to make a story about Champ.Ó “It was a good second film to shoot up here,” Plue said. Ò We are in talks for distribution of the movie in December and also to have it set up for video-ondemand later.Ó Ò Champ-o-SaurusÓ follows the travels of a documentary film team who come to Moriah and Port Henry looking for evidence of the mysterious Lake

Champlain Monster, or as he is known locally, Ò Champ.Ó The three documentarians travel to town in search of stories on the monster, offering a reward leading to any hard evidence. Their search leads them throughout the town, finding many different residents, played by local community members, and even going to the seat of local government. Ò You might want to talk to the town superintendent,Ó says the storekeeper to the crew. Ò Lord knows he ainÕ t camera shy.Ó CONTINUED ON PAGE 17
