CROWN POINT – A new Crown Point Health Center could break ground this fall and be open by May 2017. That’s the word from officials at University of Vermont Health Network, Elizabethtown

Community Hospital, who are spearheading the project. The hospital has recently entered into an agreement with Dr. Peter Sayers of Keene to assume his medical practice in Crown Point. Sayers is currently the physician at the town health center on Creek Road, and will staff the new facility when it opens. The new health center will be built on Main Street (Route 9N) in Crown Point, on what is now a vacant lot between the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Champlain National Bank branch.

The church owns the property, and is selling it to the hospital for an undisclosed sum. The congregation will be able to use the center’s parking lot after hours to alleviate parking congestion that exists now. The town-owned space that Sayers’ office currently occupies will be leased by Elizabethtown Community Hospital, ensuring no interruption of service during construction of the new Health Center, hospital spokeswoman Jane Hooper said. She said Dr. Sayers and his staff will become employees of Elizabethtown Commu-

nity Hospital in September. “It’s essentially that Dr. Sayers, who has been in Crown Point for a long time, will continue his practice,” Hooper said. “The new location is going to be really nice. The hospital will supply a physician’s assistant, so there will be extended hours, and they can see more patients.” The 4,000-square-foot building will include six examination rooms, office space, nursing work station, procedure room, a room for lab draws such as blood samples, and reception, >> See HEALTH CENTER | pg. 25
