Car show revs up for next Sunday
keith@denpubs.com TICONDEROGA — The television station which has served the Ticonderoga Central School District for years will now expand its scope. Recently, a committee was formed with representatives from the school district, Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce, Town of Ticonderoga and Denton Publications to expand the services offered through the station, channel 17 on Time Warner Cable. TACC Executive Director Matthew Courtright said the idea was brought to him by Heath Towne, who heads the station through the school. “Heath came to us to help spark a conversation to see how to get businesses more involved in school activities and the station,” Courtright said. Towne said he first started to focus on the future of TiTV during tough budget times at the school. “Three years ago the school district was facing a bad budget year,” Towne said. He recalled some of the difficulties related to a tax cap on municipalities and schools. “This put the district in a very bad place financially, so cuts had to be

Schroon board member wants public input on broadband Official raises concerns about project timeline By Christopher Pratt christopher@denpubs.com SCHROON — Not getting the type of broadband access you want in the town of Schroon? Town board member Don Sage wants to hear from you. At a town board meeting earlier this month, Sage said he expressed concerns to other elected officials
that state money targeted to improve the broadband network is not being released quickly enough. In March 2013, Schroon Lake was named as one of many communities that would benefit from a state program aimed at expanding high-speed Internet access in rural upstate and underserved areas. A statement from Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office announced that the $2.16 million grant would go to a project to provide high-speed, low-cost broadband service to 457 households in the towns of Schroon and North Hudson. Nicholville-based Slic Network Solutions was tapped to help spearhead the effort, which is aimed
at helping residents and small businesses get on a higher-performing grid. Sage, who is a co-chairman of the town broadband committee, said in an interview that crews are “done and complete” with the land surveying needed to bring broadband to several sections of the town, including residences in Paradox. Surveying work is also finished around Charley Hill Road and Hoffman Road. Those areas are “just waiting” for equipment like cables to be installed, Sage said. Continued on page 23
