Pt. Henry to set vote Village received petition to go to polls on plan to end village government By Keith Lobdell

PORT HENRY — The regular meeting of the Port Henry Board of Trustees may be anything but regular. That is because the board will be setting the date for a vote that would stop the process of dissolving the municipal, incorporated form of government as residents successfully petitioned to have the dissolution plan go to vote. Deputy Mayor Matthew Brassard said the board will set the date for the vote during its June 13 meeting.
“The vote can be no sooner then Aug 12 and no later then Sept. 11,” Brassard said. “It will be part of the regular board meeting.” The petition attempting to prevent the dissolution plan from moving forward was filed the morning of Wednesday, May 18 with village clerk Denise Daly. On May 25, the petition was certified by Village Clerk Denise Daly with 221 valid signatures. It was submitted by former Port Henry Mayor Gary Cooke, who has been an opponent of the dissolution and has been calling for a common ground solution. On Oct. 27 of last year, residents voted 190-171 to move forward with a dissolution plan to dissolve the village into the town of Moriah. The Monday, June 13 meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at the village hall.

Crown Pt projects shelved Supervisor said he feels confident about locking in future grants By Mikaela Foster

CROWN POINT — Due to financial and political concerns, Crown Point Town Supervisor Charles Harrington said the next phase of the ongoing water project is being postponed. Harrington said the decision was made during a recent Water Committee meeting with representatives from several county entities. He said the “very good reason” is that they’ve applied for another $600,000 grant and feel confident they will be in line for it, but the money is not available until 2017.
The supervisor added that if the town is awarded that money, the result will be longterm “reduced user fees.” SIDEWALK PROJECT: Harrington said the sidewalk project is also postponed due to possible funds not being available until 2017. The supervisor said he has submitted a letter to Senator Elizabeth Little’s office requesting $100,000 for sidewalk replacement. “I have had a call from her office acknowledging receipt of the letter with an added statement that Little’s office does have funds available. We are in good standing with the senator and anticipate her support in this request,” he wrote. But, Harrington added, he is “waiting for a solid response.”
