TICONDEROGA Ñ Over 100 residents from Ticonderoga and the surrounding towns packed into a dining room at Moses Ludington Hospital April 29 to hear about the proposed changes at the medical facility. Interim ILH CEO Rod Boula was joined by members of the ILH and University of Vermont Medical Center-Elizabethtown Community Hospital boards, UVM-CVPH CEO Stephens Mundy and representatives from Hudson Headwaters Health Network to talk about the creation of a Ò medical campusÓ partnership. ILH board president Rolland Ò RollyÓ Allen put the cards on the table early. Ò You have probably heard a lot about joining with Elizabethtown Community Hospital and a network enterprise for the future, and itÕ s all true,Ó Allen said. Ò What we want to tell you is now that we are living in (a) sinkhole, how we are going to get out of it and ensure the community has high quality health care services which are also financially sustainable.Ó CONTINUED ON PAGE 8

Schroon native Stone calls ‘Run for the Roses’ By Keith Lobdell keith@denpubs.com
LOUISVILLE, Kent. Ñ In the world of sports announcers, there are few dream jobs. Calling the Super Bowl. World Series. Indianapolis 500. And the Kentucky Derby. For a Schroon Lake graduate, the dream came true this past Saturday, as Travis Stone called the 141st annual running of the fastest two minutes in sports at Churchill Downs. Ò It is truly an honor to become the new voice of
Churchill Downs and to join a community that shares my passion and enthusiasm for this wonderful sport,Ó Stone said in press release when he was hired in December. Ò The opportunity to call the Kentucky Derby and all of the prestigious races at Churchill Downs is a dream come true.Ó TravisÕ mother, Christine, who works at the Schroon Town Hall, said everyone had been asking her about the big moment throughout the weekend. Ò Everybody has been so excited for him,Ó she said. Ò He got to call the Kentucky Derby. He has dreamt about this since he was a boy.Ó
Stone called all the races at the track during the day, including the first leg of the coveted Triple Crown. While his call went out on several platforms, those watching on NBC heard the voice of his predecessor, Larry Collmus, who is contracted by the national television station to call all three legs of the trifecta, which includes the Preakness and Belmont Stakes. Ò We had the television on mute and listened to Travis on the internet,Ó Chris Stone said. Ò He called all the races that day. He did four of the races on television, as well.Ó CONTINUED ON PAGE 17
