Solar energy part of roof repair projects

CROWN POINT Ñ Some work now could risk a system-wide project later, which is why Crown Point officials have yet to pull the trigger on its state of emergency concerning the water pipe at the main intersection in the hamlet. The leak at the corner of Route 9N/22, Creek Road and Sugar Hill Road has been visible above ground for several weeks, even leading to accidents when leaking water during the day turned into ice in the freezing evenings. Supervisor Charles Harrington issued a state of emergency shortly after the leak was discovered, but town officials have been patient in starting the project out of fear other parts of their massive water district revitalization project would be ineligible for state funding. Ò They do not want to fund temporary repairs,Ó AES Northeast engineer Todd Hodgson said during the April 9 water committee meeting at the Crown Point town hall. Ò They want to fund the full thing. This way, you are only going to spend money on this once instead of spending money for a six month temporary fix and having to spend money on it again.Ò CONTINUED ON PAGE 9

Mineville hydro plan presented to public By Keith Lobdell keith@denpubs.com

PORT HENRY Ñ A vision created in 1990 is one hurdle away from becoming a reality, bringing new life to the pits and underground tunnels that put Mineville on the map. James Besha, Sr., President of Albany Engineering Corp., presented to the public a plan for the Mineville Pumped Storage Energy Project at Moriah Central School April 8.

Ò It will be a go, the question is when,Ó Besha said about the final federal permit the company submitted recently. Ò It is highly unlikely this would be a no-go. The regulatory process is long and it could take anywhere from six months to a number of years. I am expecting it will take a year to see the final license be issued. We have been patient to this point and we will continue to be patient.Ó Besha has been exercising his patience since 1990, when he first approached Moriah Supervisor Tom Scozzafava about the potential project.

“When we first talked about this, I have to be frank, I thought he was nuts,Ó Scozzafava said. Ò But it was a dream he hung onto and spent a lot of money on, and now it is becoming a reality.Ó For ScozzafavaÕ s part, the chief administrator of the town pointed to the economic benefits for the municipality. “The town and the school will benefit with a substantial increase in the tax base,Ó he said.
