TICONDEROGA — Now, it’s about getting their message out to the voters. The Ticonderoga Central School District Board of Education voted unanimously to let district voters decide on a new capital improvement project to address several issues on its campuses. The board heard from CS Arch during a special board meeting March 24. The company, who handled the building survey for the school district, presented plans for a $7,316,483 project which would include work at the school’s track and football field, elementary and high school roofs, along with the high school auditorium. Superintendent Dr. John McDonald said with retiring debt and other factors, residents of the district would not see an increase in their taxes over the length of the bond. “Our budget picture looks a lot better and we could start looking at a capital reserve fund for the project,” McDonald said. SCHROON — Students at Schroon Lake Central School are learning to hit the mark, and are doing it well. The school’s archery club was one of the top performers at the 2015 state archery competition at Rome
Free Academy March 7 as the Wildcats placed second in the High School Team division with 3,052 points. “We missed first by only 18 points,” archery coach Mike Sharp said. “We had five of the top 15 overall boys and four of the top 20 overall girls, 25 students ranked in the top 10 of their grade level and we placed first, second and third for Elementary Girls division.” The club had 10 of its 35 student-archers qualify for the national competition, which will be held May 7-9 in Louisville, Ky. Those students include Derek DeZalia, Ben Wisser, Supakrit “Him” Techatanakit, Dakota Gadway, Jack Higgens, Brooke Brown, Daw-
son DeZalia, Shaelan Finnerty, Shelbie Rice and Baileigh Hornick. Seven of the qualifiers will be headed to the Bluegrass State for the NASP National Competition hosted by the National Archery in the Schools Program. The club will be hosting a pair of fundraisers to help pay for the trip. On April 7 and April 9, there will be a parent archery clinic put on by the club from 5 to 7 p.m. The clinic will cost $10, with all proceeds going towards the national endeavor. CONTINUED ON PAGE 16
