TICONDEROGA — Officials may be one step closer to having the funding needed to move the police department into a new home on the Armory property. The town has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the office of New York State Sen. Betty Little to be used toward a capital project, which officials decided would be the moving of the police department from its current location to a new building. “Sen. Little approached us to know if we had a need for the grant,” Supervisor Bill Grinnell said. “After talking about it with Building and Grounds chair (and town council member) Dave Iuliano, we decided to focus the funds on the police building need.” Ò When she does something like this for a community like ours where we are always looking for grants and funding to keep our structures up, it is so impactful and appreciated,” Iuliano said. Vikings heading back to Final Four By Keith Lobdell keith@denpubs.com
PORT HENRY Ñ Two days after defeating Germantown in the Class D regional finals, it was business as usual for the Moriah varsity boys basketball team. Why business as usual? Because the Vikings are now veterans when it comes to playing the third weekend in March.
Moriah (23-0) now prepares for their second straight trip to the NYPHSAA Class D Final Four at the Glens Falls Civic Center, where they will play the NYSSWA top-ranked team, Bridgehampton, Friday, March 20, at 11:45 a.m. “Last year, they played young,” head coach Brian Cross said about the difference between the mostly-sophomore squad of 2013-14, now one year older. “You can see a difference. Just that year of experience and the summer of AAU and league play.
That’s the biggest difference, the team in general is a year more mature.” Along with a core of junior talent, the Vikings also have numerous options which were on display throughout the season coming off the bench. “We are deeper than we were last year,” Cross said. “We have had new kids step up and play really well. With 15 kids on the roster in practice, it makes everything competitive.” CONTINUED ON PAGE 24
