TICONDEROGA Ñ After the shock and realization their pipeline dream was coming to an end, the International Paper Mill in Ticonderoga started to work on a new solution to get natural gas into their operating systems. “It was definitely a disappointment, but we always have a plan B,Ó IP spokeswoman Donna Wadsworth said. Ò Our energy costs are still extremely high and we have been stepping back and looking at energy alternatives. We get ideas every day from people and we are appreciative of that.Ó Wadsworth said the new plan for the Mill will take a part from the one which had natural gas being provided by a pipeline which would have been run under Lake Champlain from Vermont into the mill as part of a deal between IP and Vermont Gas. Ò We had always planned to install the capability to use natural gas during this year Õ s outage,Ó Wadsworth said. Ò We planned to use a temporary system to bridge to the pipeline which would give us a chance to check out all of the system, get people trained and start to see some of the cost savings. Now, we are looking at a more permanent installation and more robust.Ó CONTINUED ON PAGE 5

crown Point ambulance service ends By Keith Lobdell keith@denpubs.com
CROWN POINT Ñ The Crown Point Fire District is out of the ambulance business. After several months of looking for a person to replace their former medical director, the CPFD Board of Fire Commissioners announced last week they would no longer be providing ambulance services to the community. Instead, Lamoille Ambulance Services, which has been responding to Crown Point emergency calls un-
der a temporary contract for just over a year, will now be the primary ambulance service provider. In a release, the board of commissioners said it was with Ò deep regretÓ they would no longer be able to provide the service to the residents of Crown Point. Ò From this point forward, emergency ambulance service will provided under contract with another agency in the area,Ó the statement read. Ò Currently, that is Lamoille Ambulance based in Ticonderoga who will respond to any emergency called into 911 and will transport the patient to the appropriate medical facility based on patient need. Lamoille Ambu-
lance, as a paid ambulance service provider, contracts with Crown Point Fire District to be available for response to the Town of Crown Point and then bills the insurance company of those who use the service.Ó Ò We really didnÕ t have all that much of a choice,Ó said Gregg L. Trask, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners. Ò We turned over all the stones and kicked at all the bushes to find a medical director. The state finally came in and said we had done it long enough and the time had come to end the service.Ó CONTINUED ON PAGE 13
