TICONDEROGA Ñ A 57year old lost his life Jan. 23 after an incident at the International Paper Ticonderoga Mill. Jorg Borowski, who was a member of the maintenance team at the plant, passed away that evening at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington after suffering severe burns and injuries while doing work in the facilityÕ s power plant. Ò We are deeply saddened by this loss,Ó Ticonderoga Mill spokeswoman Donna Wadsworth said. Ò Jorg was a valued and respected member of the Ticonderoga Mill family. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family, friends and mill team members.Ó Wadsworth said the plant would have no further comment at the moment because an incident investigation is underway, being conducted by an IP corporate investigation team and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). According to his obituary, Borowski, who would have turned 58 Feb. 10, moved to Schroon Lake from West Milford, N.J. He was born in Berlin, Germany, to Heinz and the late Ursula Hollwitz Borowski.

SCHROON Ñ Tammy Whitty-Brown grew up in Schroon Lake and admitted to being homesick ever since. Now, she will head up the Schroon Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, being named as Executive Director last week. Ò I am excited about this new job,Ó Whitty-Brown said. Ò I am excited to collaborate with the team of volunteers that are already working so hard to make Schroon Lake a successful community and visitor
destination. I will make it my mission to support development projects, tourism promotion and expansion of the current list of existing cultural events to help my former childhood home grow and prosper.Ó Ò We are thrilled to welcome Tammy back to Schroon Lake,Ó said Shelby Davis of the ChamberÕ s Board of Directors. Ò Her experience is spot-on for what the job requires, and her extensive and personal connection to Schroon Lake and knowledge of its challenges and opportunities will serve the community well.Ó Whitty-Brown said she met a lot of community
business leaders at the recent winter social held by the chamber at WitherbeeÕ s. She will start her new job Monday, Feb. 2, and said she is looking forward to bringing a variety of ideas to the position. “I want to find things that spark people’s interest and get them out,Ó she said. Ò There are a lot of communities like ours across the country who have al lot of events and I would like to take some of those ideas and run with them. Working with the media is a piece of that, having someone who is constantly getting the word out in as many ways as possible.Ó CONTINUED ON PAGE 13
