New Ti super seeks input from all Giordano: Solving problems starts with communication By Mikaela Foster

TICONDEROGA — Communication is a natural part of moving forward and getting things done in any situation. Communicating with others is how information is shared, concerns raised, discussions had and problems solved. For newly elected Ticonderoga Supervisor Joe Giordano, communication is the key. During January’s town board meeting, Giordano explained one of his goals for this year is to involve the entire community, including youth, in having more conversations about how to solve problems the community has been facing. One way he is attempting to open up channels of communication is with local committees to come up with goals they’d like to accomplish for the year. He’s also gone to local elementary schools to start conversations about what community means with the young students. >> Story Continued | pg. 10

MINEVILLE — Ready for a hare-raising event? To bring the sport of rabbit hunting to the area, the Mineville VFW Post 5802 is hosting its first Rabbit Hunting Tournament, Feb. 27-28, at the VFW in Mineville. Dan Wallace, post quartermaster for VFW Post 5802, said some local rabbit hunters inspired this event and it’s something they want to start doing every year. He said they hope it will help get kids involved. Local rabbit hunter Gary Cutting, who hunts with his dog named Chicken, was part of the tournament inspiration. He said he’s been hunting rabbits for about twelve years and really loves it. Cutting hunts with a couple of his buddies and said hunting with them and all of their dogs is a lot of fun. “It’s mostly about the competition between the dogs,” he said. “If my dog comes in first, I get bragging rights for about 30 minutes.” >> Story Continued | pg. 17
PORT HENRY — Mardi Gras brings to mind vibrant images of dancing, colorful costumes, and large feasts. But behind the bright and flashy are the quieter moments: family time, neighbors connecting, communities growing. The Catholic Communities of Crown Point and Moriah want to share this type of experience by inviting everyone to a free Mardi Gras celebration, Feb. 9, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 4253 Main St. in Port Henry. Lorraine Turgeon, a pastoral associate with the
Catholic Communities, said they’ve been hosting this event for about five years and while it’s been a community event for everyone, they literally want to invite all: chil-
dren, parents, grandparents, friends and neighbors of all ages. There are several reasons why they host this event, Turgeon said. The idea of the
Mardi Gras season, which is from Epiphany (Jan. 6) to the beginning of Lent (this year Feb. 10), is very important to the Catholic faith. Dur>> Story Continued | pg. 12
