TICONDEROGA — The Ticonderoga Central School District has been recognized for their outstanding commitment to music education with a Best Communities for Music Education designation by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation. state school districts to be recognized by the NAMM Foundation. Ticonderoga is the only school district from Essex County and the Adirondack region to receive the designation. “I think its kind of a big deal,” Harrigan said. “If you look around at other schools there has been cuts across the board and a lot of the schools in the area have lost their music programs entirely and we’ve managed to get through all that while losing only one teacher.” Harrigan said the districts ability to employ four full time music teachers, offer general music education courses up to eighth grade for nearly all students and flexible scheduling that allows for small group lessons are some of the main reasons the music program received the designation. >> Story Continued | pg. 11

PORT HENRY — If you’re familiar with Dr. Seuss’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” you know that on Christmas Eve, the Grinch stole everything from the Who’s houses, “leaving crumbs much too small for the Who mouses.” This Christmas, something resembling the
Grinch’s behavior happened to 18-monthold Trystan Maness. His brand new Power Wheels Go Kart, a special Christmas gift from his grandma, was stolen off his porch. “It was really tough,” Trystan’s mom, Tara Vilardo said. “It was Jeff ’s (Maness, the father) mother who gave it to him. She lives in Vermont and he is her only grandchild. She didn’t get to see him play with it.” >> Story Continued | pg. 8
