andy@denpubs.com SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Central School District is dealing with state mandates this school year, along with the other TriLakes districts, and will incur extra costs attached to these directives, according to school officials. SLCS Assistant Superintendent for Business Dan Bower said the district is putting in place several state mandates this year, including the Dignity for All Students Act, the Common Core standards, and the state’s new Annual Professional Performance Review Law (teacher evaluations).

‘A Place to Dream’ for Adk. artists By Katherine Clark katherine@denpubs.com LAKE PLACID — For those captivated by the beauty and poetry found in the Adirondacks, the “A Place to Dream” event will be held to bask in creativity of those inspired by the landscapes and history of

the area. The three-day event will be held Sept. 7-9 at the North Woods Inn on Main Street, the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, 17 Algonquin Drive, and film screenings will be held at the Palace Theater on Main Street. This will be the first event

of its kind in Lake Placid and all seminars are free and open to the public. “We have Ironman, lacrosse, rugby, hockey and ice skating, but we hope to have more to define this area,” Gary Smith said. The event has been two years in the making for Smith, Bob Bullock of New

York Archiving partnership and Marianne PatinelliDubay, an environmental philosopher with the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, who have been the driving force for the event. “It started over a conversation about the philosophers camp and we wanted CONTINUED ON PAGE 5

SARANAC LAKE — Both candidates for Harrietstown supervisor were pressing the flesh this past weekend at various events, and one was cooking up a plan to bring the popular farmers’ market to the Town Hall this winter. Village Trustee Tom Catillaz, the Democratic candidate, attended the Farm 2 Fork Festival Saturday, Sept. 1 and spoke with Sam Hendren, organizer of the Saranac Lake Village Farmers’ Market at Riverside Park every Saturday in the summer months.
