fred@denpubs.com SCHROON LAKE — Schroon Lake Central School has been named one of the best in the nation. The school has received a bronze medal from U.S. News and World Report magazine — making it one of 1,750 schools on the list of 2010 America’s Best High Schools. “I am pleased that the recognition honors the work of Schroon Lake Central School, especially of the students and teachers in the classroom,” said Mike Bonnewell, Schroon Lake superintendent. “The recognition highlights our student performance data — noting that our overall student performance and the performance of our student subgroups, as defined by the magazine, exceed the typical performance of similar students across the state.” This is the third year U.S. News & World Report has compiled a list of leading schools. Schroon also received a bronze medal in 2008. The only other Essex County school cited was Westport. Warrensburg was selected in Warren County. Both received bronze

It will re-open in its new location in the spring. The gallery, which opened two years ago, is now on Montcalm Street in downtown Ticonderoga. Ticonderoga Arts, Inc. is growing. “With a dream and a vision, a few artists assembled just over two short years ago to develop a plan to open an arts gallery in Ticonderoga,” said June Curtis of the gallery. “Their dream was realized when at last they opened their doors on Montcalm Street for the purpose of fostering creativity and artistic excellence and providing exhibition space to local artists working in the visual arts. “The exhibiting artists numbered eight that
