By Fred Herbst fred@denpubs.com PORT HENRY — For decades Rita Collins has preferred to stay out of the limelight while helping her community. That’s about to change. Collins has been selected grand marshal of the 119th Labor Day celebration in Port Henry. “She’s contributed many years, quietly behind the scenes, to our community,” said Jack Woods, Moriah Chamber of ComRita Collins merce president. “It’s time to recognize her. She’s just a good, all-around person. Moriah’s lucky to have people like Rita.” The annual Labor Day celebration will be held Sept. 5 and 6. The parade will be at 1 p.m. Sunday. “I’m still trying to figure out how it happened,” Collins said of her selection as grand marshal. “It’s quite an honor, although I don’t know what I did to deserve it.”

Painting helps local artist deliver hope Crown Point woman struggles with illness CROWN POINT — On the far end of the Furnace Road in Crown Point lives a woman who paints, giving hope to those who struggle and have faced adversity. Trish Buell has been painting since her diagnosis of scleroderma and paints from inspiration. “I paint what I see in my head,” said Buell.
Buell gravitates to the Native Americans where her walls show evidence with the many paintings hanging there. Wolves, cougars, horses, Native Americans, spirits and night sky paintings with the moon are often her choice for depicting a disappearing era. “I am sometimes inspired to paint pictures through what I think is a deeper connection to the spirit world,” said Buell. Beginning her career 20 years ago, Buell has won ribbons at the Essex
