CROWN POINT — Battles will once again be fought on the gr ounds of the Cr own Point State Historic Site during a British, French and Indian War encampment Aug. 13 and 14. Between 250 and 450 r eenactors are expected to converge on the site wher e the French and English once occupied a fortr ess on a picturesque plateau jutting into Lake Champlain. Site Manager Tom Hughes said two tactical weapons demonstrations ar e scheduled for the public to view during the encampment weekend. These “battles” will take place between 1:30 and 2 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. The re-enactors plan to break camp at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Hughes said the r eenactment, which has taken place on the historic site gr ounds for mor e than 15 years, is unique in that the r e-enactors ar e not limited to one particular battle, since no large scale battles were CONTINUED ON PAGE 19

Folk Festival returns Aug. 14 By Andy Flynn andy@denpubs.com SCHROON LAKE — The Adirondack Folk Music Festival will return to the Schr oon Lake T own Park on Sunday, Aug. 14 ,and will featur e five acts for an afternoon filled with mountain music.
The Schroon Lake Arts Council has organized a five-hour lineup of folk musicians from around the region for the 22nd annual Adirondack Folk Music Festival. All performances will be held at the outdoor stage from noon to 5 p.m. with picturesque Schr oon Lake and the hills of the Pharoah Lake Wilderness as a backdrop.
“It’s a long-standing, well-known folk festival,” said Schr oon Lake Arts Council Pr esident Jack Osborne, adding that the event usually draws about 400 people to the hamlet. “It brings a lot of people in to Schroon Lake fr om just outside the local area, and the town is active that day.”
