Church to serve turkey dinner PUTNAM — The Putnam United Pr esbyterian Church’s annual turkey dinner will be held Satur day, June 11, at the Putnam fir e house. Take-outs can be picked up beginning at 4 p.m. and eat-in dining will begin at 4:30. The meal includes turkey, mashed potatoes, squash, corn, stuf fing, kohl slaw, cranberry sauce, r olls, homemade pie, and beverages. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Ride planned PORT HENRY — The Mountain Lake Services Foundation will host a motorcycle ride to raise awar eness for people with disabilities July 9 with a rain date of July 16. The event includes a 100mile ride from Port Henry to Keeseville and back for a donation of $20 per bike. After the event ther e will be a cook-out lunch available for $5 at 10 St. Patrick’s Place in Port Henry. Music will be provided by Mountain Lake Services’ band, Generationz. Crown Point moves toward sole assessor By Fred Herbst

fred@denpubs.com CROWN POINT — The Crown Point town board has voted to eliminate the community’s thr ee elected assessors in favor of a sole, appointed position. The move will save local taxpayers mor e than $18,000 a year, according to Supervisor Bethany Kosmider. Trustees voted 3-1 during their June 9 meeting to draft a local law abolishing the elected assessor positions effective Dec. 31, 201 1, and cr eating a sole assessor starting Jan. 1, 2012. Fort Ti to present battle re-enactment June 25 and 26

fred@denpubs.com TICONDEROGA — Fort T iconderoga will come under attack by British forces next weekend. The fort will host “Clash for Empir e: The Fr ench and Indian War at Fort T iconderoga” Satur day and Sunday , June 25 and 26. It will featur e r e-enactors portraying French and British soldiers of the Seven Year ’s War, also known as the French and Indian War. The soldiers will r ecreate the events leading to the British capture of the fort. See TICONDEROGA, page 12
