Green Up Day planned MORIAH — The town of Moriah will hold their “Green Up Day” aka Clean up Day on Saturday, June 4. Bags, gloves and vests can be picked up at the town clerk’s of fice beginning Tuesday, May 31 thr ough Friday June 3 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Residents can also pick up the gloves, vests and bags from Councilman Salerno at the town hall on Saturday, June 4 fr om 8 a.m. until 9 a.m.

Movie night slated in Port Henry PORT HENRY — Lake Champlain Bible Fellowship will host a monthly community movie night on the first Saturday of every month at 7 p.m. Specific movie information is available at www.lcbible.org or 546-4200.

Annual turkey dinner scheduled

PUTNAM — The Putnam Firehouse will be the location for the Putnam United Presbyterian Church's annual Turkey Dinner on Saturday, June 11. There's plenty of room so r eserved seating is not r equired. T ake-outs can be picked up beginning at 4 p.m. and eat-in dining will begin at 4:30. The meal includes turkey, mashed potatoes, squash, corn, stuffing, kohl slaw, cranberry sauce, rolls, homemade pie, and beverages. The cost is $10/adult and $5 for young children.

‘Rock cuts’ solution sought in Moriah Supervisor demands action

fred@denpubs.com MORIAH — Moriah leaders hope to meet with state of ficials to discuss possible solutions to flooding in the “r ock cuts” along Route 9N/22 south of Port Henry. That section of highway was closed several days as the Lake Champlain water level crested and has been limited to one lane by flooding for the

past two weeks as water r ecedes. “The ‘r ock cuts’ r eally cr eate major pr oblems,” Moriah Supervisor T om Scozzafava said. “ It’s t he m ain a rtery i n and out of the town of Moriah and village of Port Henry traveling north and south. When they close the ‘rock cuts’ it creates a very difficult situation.” The New York State Department of T ransportation is aware of the problem, according to Carol Breen, senior public information of ficer with the state DOT.
