Veterans to assist quake victims The American Legion Post 224 and the Essex County Leathernecks Marine Corp League Detachment 791 have formed a coalition to raise funds for “The Veterans Haiti Relief Fund.” The group is asking for a “send what you can” donation, which will be forwarded through the Red Cross the end of February. proposed $9.9 million building project. “We may never have this opportunity again,” Moriah Superintendent Bill Larrow said. “We have to exploit every funding opportunity we can to benefit our taxpayers and students. This is a great opportunity.”

While there is no cost to local taxpayers, the project must still be approved by district voters. A public information meeting on the proposed project will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, in the school auditorium.

Summer program at risk Pre-registration March 6 will determine fate of Ti youth activities By Fred Herbst fred@denpubs.com TICONDEROGA — The Ticonderoga summer youth recreation program is in jeopardy. Town officials have scheduled a new registration day after an initial effort to sign up children for the program met with little success. Pre-registration will be held for the 2010 Ticonderoga summer youth program at the Ticonderoga Youth Center (Armory) on Saturday, March 6, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Applications are available at the school now and have been sent home. Officials ask parents to complete the forms prior to arriving at the pre-registration. Pre-registration is mandatory for this year ’s program. March 6 will be the last day to register. If parents cannot attend that day they should drop or mail the forms to the Ticonderoga town clerk’s office as soon as possible. Tony Thompson, Ti town clerk, said the pre-registration will determine the fate of the summer rec program. If enough children do not register, the program will be scrapped. At the initial registration day, Thompson said, eight children registered. “Please pre-register,” Thompson asked parents. “This summer ’s availability of the program depends on this pre-registration.”
