Fort Ti OES to serve dinner Fort Ticonderoga Chapter #263 Order of the Eastern Star will host an Italian buffet dinner on Sunday, Jan. 16, at the Masonic Lodge on Montcalm Street from 4-6 p.m. Take outs will be available starting at 3:30 p.m. The public is invited. The menu will include spaghetti, lasagna (veggie and regular), and baked ziti, tossed salad, garlic bread and homemade cakes. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children.
Ti school board plans meeting
SCHROON LAKE — After 75 years, Schroon Lake Central School has a new gym. The new facility was opened Jan. 5 as the home Wildcats won girls and boys basketball games against Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference foe Willsboro, “The new gym is great,” said Mary Lou Shaughnessy, Schroon athletic director. “We had our first home game against Willsboro and the Wildcats rocked the house. We had approximately 450 people come to the opening game.” The new court is regulation size, something Schroon Lake has never had. That means the Wildcats have been forced to play all its tournament games on the road in the past. No more. “We are excited and we are planning on playing sectionals in our gym,” Shaughnessy said. HAGUE — The National Junior College Athletic Association is proud to announce Jocelyn Fischer of Hague has received national recognition. Fischer, a student at Adirondack Community College in Queensbury, is the winner of the 2009-2010 Lea Plarski Award given by the National Junior College Athletic Association. The Plarski Award is handed out annually by the NJCAA to the student-athlete who exemplifies sportsmanship, leadership, community service and academic excellence coupled with athletic ability and achievement. The Hague woman is the lone recipient of the award. There are 57,000 junior college athletes nationally.
She is the daughter of Pam and Robert Fischer. Fischer led Adirondack as captain of the women’s tennis squad, while also contributing in her community. Fischer is currently pursuing a degree in nursing and volunteers with the Hague Fire Department as a critical care emergency medical technician. She also serves as an EMT with the Warrensburg EMS. As part of her volunteer work Fischer has created her own training videos to help instruct fellow EMS staff members and students. She also teaches EMT continuing education courses, is the webmaster of the Hague Fire Department website and regularly visits local schools to lecture about the dangers of drinking

Outside of her commitments in the medical service community, Fischer has volunteered for the past seven years at the Silver Bay YMCA Conference Center, giving tennis lessons, teaching weight training, first-aid courses, lifeguarding and photography classes, while also helping with marketing and day-to-day operations. Fischer has also found time to excel on the tennis court. She has earned both All-Mountain Valley Conference and All-Region 3 honors in back-to-back seasons at Adirondack CC. She was the No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles finalist the past two seasons in Region 3. She helped
