Support for PAL football strong through the years

P

lattsburgh Police Athletic League (PAL) football has had strong support since its formation. The communities of Plattsburgh, Peru, Beekmantown, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, Moriah, Ausable, and Saranac rally behind their kids and so do local businesses and organizations.

One prime example is Moose Lodge No. 2390 in Plattsburgh, where the lodge has been following their mission statement by helping out PAL football for nearly two decades.

According to Moose Lodge International’s Web site, www.mooseintl.org, the organization’s mission is “dedicated to caring for young and old, bringing communities closer together and celebrating life.”

One way in which they do this is by hosting a banquet every year to help PAL football raise money.

“We just picked up on it as a community thing,” explained Howard Abare, administrator for Lodge 2390. “We have members that belong to the lodge that

are involved with PAL football. We thought it was a good idea and we never stopped.”

The lodge foots the bill for the banquet, and whatever money comes in from ticket sales, goes right back to the teams.

“We decided to do a banquet for all of them so they could raise money to get equipment throughout the year,” explained Abare.

Supporting PAL football since 1993, Abare has enjoyed being a spectator of the sport as well.

“It’s really fun,” he said. “Especially the young ones that are just learning. To watch them do the flag football ... they catch on quick.”

“They’re good kids and they’re polite,” added Abare. “They work hard.

They work very hard at what they’re doing and they’re rewarded for it.”

Being a part of the lodge and having the ability to support the teams, is something Abare summed up as being “awesome.”

“Anything we can do for children ... this is what it’s all about,” he said. “Taking care of the community. Giving back to the community.”
