This Week MINERVA

By Bill Quinlivan

denpubs@denpubs.com INDIAN LAKE — The November meeting of the board of the town of Indian Lake saw a unanimous vote to adopt a preliminary budget for 2015 that has been hammered out over the past several weeks. For the purposes of the mandated NYS Property Tax Cap computations, the budget represents $3,523,129, which is an increase of 4.703 percent, or $158,246 over the 2014 Budget figure of $3,364,883. Directly after the unanimous vote to adopt the preliminary 2015 budget, Indian Lake Supervisor Brian Wells communicated his gratitude and recognized the work of the board members and department heads in diligently bringing the estimated levy down from where it stood prior to the beginning of the budget workshops. That tentative budget stood at $3,683,913, which would have represented an increase of 9.481 percent over 2014. Wells made note of how difficult the stateÕ s Mandated Property Tax Cap is for towns and noted that over the past few years, the townÕ s administration has managed to remain within the mandate, but not without paying the price as a community with regard to true growth and progress. Wells closed his comments by saying, Ò the tax cap is a killer, but I believe we did a good job with arriving at a responsible budget.Ó CONTINUED ON PAGE 6

NORTH CREEK Ñ For three days, the local community is asked to come together and get the Ò lights on,Ó to celebrate the opening of the holiday and winter ski seasons. The annual Lights On weekend will kick off a month-long celebration of the season with a weekend of events highlighted by the Lights On Parade in North Creek Saturday, Dec. 6. Ò For the past 25 years, this committee, made up of residents and business people from the Johnsburg community, have worked together to create a re-

gional celebration of all things winter,Ó Laurie Arnheiter said. Ò Businesses are encouraged to light up their buildings with white lights, natural greenery and red bows to enhance the theme.Ó The main event for the weekend will be the parade, which will lineup from 11:15 until 11:30 a.m. at the North Creek Firehouse and Johnsburg Central School. The parade will then step off toward downtown at 11:30 a.m., making its way to the Tri County Nursing Home. Ò The nursing home is very appreciative we end the parade at the town highway garage, allowing their residents the opportunity to enjoy this commu-

nity event,Ó Arnheiter said. Ò Santa and Mrs. Claus are delivered to the nursing home along with a number of organizations that carol to residents and staff.Ó Events start Thursday, Dec. 4, with the Methodist Church tea and bazaar from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Community Bank will also host an open house from noon until 3 p.m., followed by the official lighting of the community Christmas tree, donated by Rob Wing and family of Volt Landscaping, in front of the Copperfield Inn.
