CAREER DAY
This Week NORTH CREEK

denpubs@denpubs.com INDIAN LAKE Ñ SeptemberÕ s Indian Lake Central School DistrictÕ s Board of Education meeting saw a greater than usual attendance by taxpayers, some seeking answers to a pair of artices written in the Watertown Daily Times about Superintendent Mark Brand. The questions arose after an article and subsequent editorial opinion piece appearing on Sept. 12 and Sept. 15, respectively, reported allegations of tax delinquency on the part Brand dating back as far as 1992 in Jefferson County. From one of the meeting attendees, attention was drawn to the recent article and editorial opinion piece that made the allegations of non-payment of taxes by Brand for property from which he allegedly collects rents and lease monies in Jefferson County. The article alleges that the rents are sent to a post office box in Indian Lake leased under the name of Romark Construction Co., in care of Brand. The company was dissolved in 2001. Ó He [Brand] represents our school, what is being done about this?Ó asked a member of the audience. Ò There has not been time for a reasoned reaction to this,Ó board president Jon Voorhees said. Voorhees turned the floor over to Superintendent Brand, who read a prepared statement in which he stated this is a personal matter and that he has done nothing wrong. He said that he is making this statement under the advice of an attorney.

Winslow nears 100 goal mark
NORTH CREEK Ñ Gore Mountain is becoming even more impressive and user friendly this season with the installation of the new ski lift, Ò The Adirondack Express II.Ó Upon entering the construction site, one can see that completion is nearing. Concrete was being poured at the base terminal on Sept. 18, getting the lift one step closer to its estimated open date in late November. Marketing Manager Emily Stanton said, Ò the high-
speed quad is not only more efficient but it also provides a more luxurious experience.Ó The new lift, located at the base of Gore next to the Northwoods Gondola, will feature eight fewer towers for the mile-and-a-half ride. The installation of the lift will give its riders a smooth, quick trip to the top of the mountain where they can begin to ski the day away. Ò ItÕ s a much needed improvement,Ó said Stanton. Ò We are making great strides in modernizing the lifts.Ó Stanton noted that the Adirondack Express II will be replacing what was once the oldest lift of its kind in New York State. When asked if all lifts would even-
tually be modeled after this improvement, Stanton laughed and looked at General Manager, Mike Pratt. Ò That would be ideal,Ó she said. Pratt remarked that skiers like to be on the trails early in the morning and the Adirondack Express II will only help their cause. Ò We will be getting them on the trails as fast as possible,Ó said Pratt. Ò This is a great starting point to access all of our terrain.Ó Customers can expect the quad to be similar to that of the Burnt Ridge Quad which has always gotten positive feedback in the past.
