denpubs@denpubs.com LONG LAKE Ñ Two Long Lake Central School Sophomores spent three excellent days at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy from June 12 through June 14. Fourth of July activities set for Indian Lake
INDIAN LAKE Ñ The Town of Indian LakeÕ s Independence Day Celebration Weekend will take place Saturday, July 4. The day will kick off with the annual KidÕ s Fishing Derby at Byron Park starting at 8 a.m. The Indian Lake/Blue Mountain Lake Fish and Game Association sponsors this event every year with over 200 kids participating. This is a free event for kids under the age of 16. New this year, the Fish & Game will also be sponsoring a KidÕ s Shoot at the Range on Chain Lakes Road from 2 until 4 p.m. This will be an introduction to Target Shooting and Gun Safety. .22

The three days of the event were packed with activities. Asked what he thought of the HOBY weekend, Austin said Ò it was great Ð I had an amazing time.Ó

great opportunity to find a treasure and is fun to participate in or just sit back and watch. Also the Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. will be holding their Annual Chicken Barbecue at the Fire Hall. Stop in to enjoy this delicious meal after 4 p.m. But make sure to get there early because they will more then likely sell out. NEWCOMB Ñ A special projects committee is in the preliminary planning stages of bringing a new welcome/ historical center to the town of Newcomb Ð a project which will take years to complete, but will eventually establish an informational hub for visitors to the area. The project is an offshoot of the Department of Environmental ConservationÕ s Smart Growth plan Ñ an initiative intended to integrate economic development and job creation into Adirondack communities by encouraging growth in already developed areas in order to preserve the natural elements that make them unique. The actual construction of the building is still years away, according to deputy supervisor Wester Miga in an interview. Ò WeÕ re working on a development plan,Ó Miga said. Ò It wonÕ t be something that will happen overnight.Ó So far, the committee has both met with an architect to discuss the project, as well as holding a public workshop Wednesday, April 29, at which Newcomb residents were invited to express their opinions and ideas for possible aspects of the center.
