According to Eugene Bush, Assistant Fire Chief with the Newcomb Volunteer Fire Department, proprietors Donna and Rebecca Draper and Warren Kirby, who live in an adjoined apartment, awoke in the night to the sound of the fire alarm. They then discovered the fire in the building near a utility closet. Unable to contain the flames, they called 911 and the department arrived on the scene in under 10 minutes. All three, along with the family dog, made it out of the building without injury.

INDIAN LAKE — Harold Ford, Laura Lucy and Band will perform their show, “The Spirit of Johnny Cash,” at the Indian Lake Theater Saturday, March 28, 7 p.m., to benefit local theater troupe, “The Cabin Fever Players’” 2016 musical. The international act has met with considerable success over the six years they have been active. According to Ford, the group breaks attendance records at every fair they play, and they have sold out both of their previous shows in Indian Lake. When the group performed at Shepard’s Park in Lake George, they played to an audience of 5,000, he said. Ford is the only Johnny Cash tribute artist endorsed by the late music iconÕ s brother, Tommy Cash, with whom he continues to collaborate. Cash told Ford, “Nobody in the world can do a solo of my brother like you.” “We’ve been friends ever since,” Ford said. “With John’s brother on board, it becomes more than just a tribute.” That’s not all that sets Ford apart from the other Cash tribute artists, though. When Ford takes the stage, he does not introduce himself to the crowd as Cash. “There is no impersonating going on,” Ford said. “It’s not about ego—it’s about the music.” Ford aims not only to celebrate the “Man in Black’s” extensive catalogue, but to capture his spirit on the stage.
