This Week ADK Shakespeare prepares for spring tour

NEWCOMB— Spring is here, and what better way is there to come out of your winter hibernation than a trip to the theater? The final weekend in March will see theater productions at Newcomb, Warrensburg, Lake George, North Warren and Bolton schools. Dates and curtain times vary by production. “THE SOMEWHAT TRUE TALE OF ROBIN HOODÓ AT NEWCOMB The NCS drama club will present Mary Lynn Dobson’s irreverent twist on the classic Robin Hood legend in the NCS Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28. A Monty-Python-esque reimagining of the familiar tale, the show invites its audience into a Sherwood Forrest that is wildly unlike the traditional legend. CONTINUED ON PAGE 2

SCHROON Ñ The Adirondack Shakespeare Company is launching its first spring tour of upstate New York this year with productions of “Romeo & Juliet” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Performances by the companyÕ s fully professional cast will be on tour from Saratoga Springs to Upper Jay from Friday, April 10 through Sunday, April 19. In past years, ADK Shakes has produced spring titles in New York City, but they are excited to make a transition to the upstate area, concentrating all three of their mainstage production seasons in the Adirondack Region. “We have been producing a Summer Festival Season in the Adirondacks since 2010 and an Autumn Season since 2013,Ó said Tara Bradway, the CompanyÕ s Artistic Director. “It’s about time for us to give our upstate audiences a Spring Repertory Season too.Ó The Season is made possible by the New York State Council of the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. Support from the Alfred Z. Solomon Charitable Trust has also helped to make this yearÕ s Spring Season a reality. Performances will be at Tannery Pond Community Center, the Bullhouse Restaurant in Chestertown, and at other locations regionally.

NORTH CREEK — The main lodge at Gore Mountain was the scene of a huge event supporting the area’s local Olympic hopeful, Abe Studler. The event officially occurred on Saturday, March 14, after the closing of the lifts at 4 p.m., but Abe was on hand before then doing some freestyle skiing demos, skiing with supporters and signing autographs. Because of this there are many young talented would-be competitors that never get the opportunity to compete at the Olympic level due to an inability of their families to pay for the annual costs involved. reason, many in the ranks of would be Olympians come from families with the financial resources to defray the annual costs. It is difficult to assess just how many more superior talented athletes never get to represent their country in the Olympic Games simply due to the lack of where-with-all to afford the necessary training and competition leading up to winning a berth.
