board Sled Racing Circuit, ensuring there will be something to get everyone excited for the winter time event. Competitors will gather from all over the Adirondacks to compete for the coveted Adk Cardboard Racing title. After the cardboard king is crowned, a traditional cardboard race will be held for all ages at 1 p.m. Prizes will be given out in the categories of speed as well as the best decorated sled in the show. This is no easy feat, as sleds will only be made of cardboard, paint, wax and tape. Winners will be broken up by age, group, and teams to decided which sled stole the show.

NEWCOMB Ñ We often hear of part-time Adirondackers who take haven in our beautiful mountains, giving themselves a break from the fast paced lives they lead wherever they call home. This isnÕ t a new phenomenon, and the Adirondacks have actually provided a place to Ò get away from it allÓ for over 100 years. Some of the most notable, elegant places that are well known as a vacationerÕ s retreat are the Ò Great CampsÓ , of which Camp Santanoni might have been the Ò greatest.Ó The camp, created in 1892 by Robert and Anna Pruyn, consists of more than four dozen buildings on 12,900 acres including a working farm, the Gate Lodge Complex, a massive Main Lodge, and several buildings on the lake. Camp Santanoni is a National Historic Landmark that has been gradually restored over the past several decades. Over the next three months, the DEC will host its third annual Ò Camp Santanoni Winter Weekends.” The first weekend in the series will take place from Jan. 17-19, the second from Feb. 14-16, and the third from Mar. 14-15. Winter sports enthusiasts are invited to take the 9.8 hike, whether by cross-country skis or snow shoes, from the Camp SantanoniÕ s Gate House complex to the lakeside main lodge complex. Participants will get to work up a sweat while viewing the breathtaking place many consider to be the Ò classic Adirondack Great Camp.Ó
