CHESTERTOWN — The Friends of the Chester Library are accepting materials for their Annual Winter Book Sale to be held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25 and 26, in the Community Room of the Chestertown Municipal Building. Remember the sale when sorting collections. All clean books and materials including audiobooks, DVDs, CDs, and VHS tapes in good condition may be left at the library Tuesdays through Saturdays. Insulation seminar scheduled at Tannery Pond NORTH CREEK — An insulation seminar will discuss insulation types, passive and active solar, heating systems, state and federal tax breaks, other goverment price reductions and return on the investment at Tannery Pond Community Center Sunday, Oct. 10, from 7 to 9 p.m.
A six-county effort to extend broadband into rural towns in the Adirondacks and elsewhere in northern New York was dealt a substantial setback recently, as federal officials announced the counties’ pending $39 million grant application through CBN Connect was not approved. In their announcement, the federal authorities gave no reason for their denial of the stimulus-funds grant application that would have bankrolled a sprawling fiber-optic network. Area officials last year characterized this proposed broadband circuit as vital to the economic survival of Adirondack communities. The giant fiber-optic loop would have brought telecommunication and highspeed Internet service to vast regions of Essex, Clinton, Franklin, Warren, Hamilton and Washington counties. The network was envisioned to help boost job opportunities in the region and prompt extensive improvements in services related to education, health care, public service and commerce. The

Equine facility unveils lesson program, welcomes new barn manager By Lindsay Yandon lindsay@denpubs.com FORT ANN — In the rolling farm fields just outside Fort Ann is a newly built state of the art equestrian facility nestled in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. Appropriately named, Adirondack Foothills Equine recently welcomed a new barn manager and unveiled a lesson program. Owner George Thomas will publicly welcome barn manager Jeff Vroman at the barn’s open house scheduled for Oct. 9 - 10. Located at 116 County Route 17A in Comstock, the open house will feature demonstrations,

Currently, it is no long fiscally feasible for the Adirondack Museum to operate two retail operations and maintain a growing on-line sales presence. The Adirondack Museum will now concentrate staff effort and monetary resources on the Blue Mountain Lake campus store, which will remain open, according to Dineen. In making the announcement, Adirondack Museum director Caroline M. Welsh expressed her gratitude for ongoing support for the museum from Lake Placid residents and elected officials, and pledged to maintain ties with the community through programs and collaborations.
