Shea Farrell Carr will lead a market basket class. The market-style basket has a variety of household uses. It can be carried in the garden to gather flowers, but is also handy for storing towels and blankets. The base of the basket is 10" by 15" and finished dimensions are 21" long, 10" wide, and 14" tall. Participants will select material colors to create their own unique basket. The cost will be $55 per participant, and includes all materials and instruction. The class will begin at 10 a.m. Pre-registration is required, space is limited. To register, call 352-7311, ext. 115 or email jrubin@adkmuseum.org. Born and raised in Long Lake, Shea Farrell Carr has been making baskets since 1992. INDIAN LAKE — In celebration of the 30 years since the return of the moose to the Adirondack Park, Indian Lake will come alive during one “moose-themed” weekend Sept. 18 and 19. The Great Adirondack Moose Festival, (GAMF) the first Moose Festival held in New York State, is made possible through a collaborative effort by the Town of Indian Lake and the Indian Lake Chamber of Commerce. It will bring a multitude of events to the hamlets of Indian Lake, Sabael and Blue Mountain Lake including guided tours, vendors, youth activities and much more. "The festival is designed to offer a purely Adirondack experience for everyone. This community-wide event features a host of Adirondack style and moose-oriented family fun activities," said chairwoman Brenda Valentine. Joining Valentine in the planning process as chairs are Christine Pouch and Aaron Gadway. “This event has great potential,” said Valentine. “We hope to see it grow as we continue to build upon the success that we anticipate for its debut season in the coming weeks.” The festival will feature activities including moose-related crafts, games, tours and Bruce the Moose will make his inaugural appearance with Smokey the Bear for children's’ entertainment and souvenir photos. For the history buff, the Indian Lake Museum Open House will offer an opportunity to learn about the beginnings of the town and the folks who settled the area. Also, the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts, in Blue Mountain Lake, will present the fall theater production

I am looking forward to science next year. The reason is because Caleb Buck said it was cool. Plus, he said that you do tons of experiments. Ken Mulvey - Johnsburg Central School I am looking forward to field trips and learning more. I also hope that I have a good teacher. I think I will have Mrs. Morris and she is the one I want. Kara LaBounty - Johnsburg Central School I am looking forward to having a big math book because I love to do math and learn more about math. I would like to get extra homework next year in fourth grade. Ryan Riedinger - Johnsburg Central School I am looking forward to next school year because I want to experience what it is like in fifth grade. I wonder if the teachers are mean or nice? Either way I am going to find out eventually. Patrick Riedinger - Johnsburg Central School

Keystone Band rocks Outreach Center event NORTH CREEK - The Ski Bowl Pavilion resounded with the classic rock sounds of the Keystone Band at the annual North Country Outreach Center Chicken Barbecue, held on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010. The Keystone Band, composed of local musicians Blair and Barry Gregson, David Ochal and Herb Summer, donated their talent and time to entertain the many volunteers and diners who came out for the event. The barbecue is a major fund raiser for the Outreach Center ’s food pantry and this year was a huge success with nearly 200 meals served and in excess of $3000 raised. With winter fast approaching, these funds will enable the Pantry to provide even more nu-

I am looking forward to fifth grade math. It will be a challenge but I can get through it by trying my best and studying. Maddie Bromley - Johnsburg Central School I am looking forward to DARE and playing an instrument next year. I hope to get the trumpet. News The Son Harvest VBS at the Sodom Community Church brought in over 50 pounds of canned food, over 15 pounds of dry food and $130 for the food pantry this year. There were on the average of 40 children each night. Many adults and teen leaders were there to help. Dean and his wife Char, from Ohio were happy to visit in the area over the weekend. They are great friends with Oliver and Ginny Dalaba. They both worked many years with Royal Rangers and Missionettes when Oliver brought them to Camp Triumph in Bakers Mills. They were happy to see the lean to's Dean helped build and the shower house. They visited Earl Allen on Saturday and attended the Sodom Community Church on Sunday. Sheldon Wagner was home for a few days from New York City Hospital before having to go back to Albany Med. His mother, Sarah, is a patient in Albany Med at this time in critical care. While in the area, Oliver and Ginny Dalaba visited his sis-

tritious, healthy food to those in need. The Board of the North Country Outreach Center would like to thank everyone who came out and donated their time and support. This event would not have been possible without the involvement of volunteer extraordinaire Don and Joyce Lasher. These two amazing people not only raised the money to cover all the expenses of the barbecue, they also provided the equipment, set up and cooked the meals and brought a number of volunteers from their church, United Methodist Church of Queensbury to assist. Because of their selfless effort, every penny raised through tickets sales will go directly to the Food Pantry. ters, Pansy Allen, Rose Allen and Candy Dalaba. Be careful as you go about your travels. School will be back is session this week. Thank you to Agnes Straight, Polly May and the Johnsburg Squad for caring for me on Friday. Check Warrensburg Journal for time. Oct. 2, Shout On The Mountain will be at Camp Triumph in concert. This will be their third year coming from New Jersey. And away we go!!! By the time you read this, the NFL season will have finally begun with a New Orleans Saints beat-down of the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday. The real fun begins Sunday with a full slate of games, and culminates with a Monday night double-header. As you all know – or should know – The New York Football Giants will be winning it all again this year! They’ll start by opening New Giants Stadium by crushing the hapless Panthers. The team that shares the stadium has great hopes this year, and while nothing would please me more than a Giants/Jets Super Bowl, I don’t see it happening. The Jets host the Ravens in the first game Monday, and will get off to an unfortunate start despite having Revis on the field. A couple of games I’ll be watching closely and am not entirely confident picking include Cincy at the Patsies and the Cowgirls at the Deadskins. Inside information from New England tells me the young defense could be an issue there, so I’m taking the Bungles, despite my Tom’s Week 1 Picks: New Orleans 28, Minnesota 13 Miami 20, Buffalo 10 Chicago 9, Detroit 7 Tennessee 24, Oakland 17 Cincinnati 21, New England 20 GIANTS 45, Carolina 3 Atlanta 23, Pittsburgh 14 Cleveland 13, Tampa Bay 9 Jacksonville 24, Denver 17 Indianapolis 28, Houston 21 San Francisco 20, Seattle 13 Green Bay 28, Philly 10 St. Louis 13, Arizona 7 Dallas 3, Washington 0 Baltimore 20, Jets 17 San Diego 30, Kansas City 10

loathing of T.O. The best outcome in the Dallas/Washington game would be 10 or 12 season-ending injuries on both sides, ending in a draw. Since I HAVE to make a pick, I’m reluctantly taking the Cowgirls. Their dysfunction seems to be a tad lighter than their opponents. Glad to see so many pickers back from last year, a few newcomers, and at least one past champion from Holcombville jumping back into the fray! Don’t forget: You can sign up for an eEdition of the News Enterprise and make your picks online at www.denpubs.com. Good luck to all, have fun this season, and GO BIG BLUE!!!
