denpubs@denpubs.com MINERVA — The results of the second vote on the Minerva Central School District’s proposed 2013-14 spending plan are not only unofficial, they are questionable due to a problem with the manual lever voting machine that was used by the voters. The second vote on the Minerva Central School budget for the school year 2014-2015 took place on June 17. Unofficial vote totals, according to MCS Superintendent Tim Farrell, showed 173 no votes on the machine plus eight no votes via absentee ballot; and 226 yes votes on the machine plus 34 yes votes via absentee ballot. This totals 181 no votes and 260 yes votes, putting the yes votes just short of the 60 percent super majority needed for the budget to pass under the state’s tax levy cap rules. The machine used failed to record at least nine votes that were cast, placing in doubt the accuracy of the total count. Because of the issue with the machine, Farrell will be consulting with the school’s attorney and there will be a decision on whether to hold a third vote at a time to be determined.
