Passenger train service that includes domed cars for panoramic scenic vistas, ski train trips, dining cars and themed excursions, was gr eeted with optimism and praise Friday as the agr eements were ratified. CHESTERTOWN — This year , members of Junior Girl Scout T roop 3030 will be combining community service and some mentoring experience as they earn the highest honor Junior Scouts can r eceive: the Br onze Award. In pr eparation for the award, these fifth-grade Junior Scouts been leading the members of Daisy Girl Scout T roop 3408 — Kindergartners and firstgraders — in various activities and conducting their meetings. Also, they’ve spent time volunteering at the Shar e Center, a sour ce of fr ee household items for those in need, located beside the Chestertown United Methodist Church. For their major pr oject, the Junior Scouts decided to collect gently used children's books to donate to the bookshelf at the Hudson Headwaters Health Center in Chestertown — where childr en will be prompted to take a fr ee book home with them. The books will also be donated to Chestertown Head Start, the Town of Chester Library and the North Warren school library . Some of the books collected will be put into "tote" bags. Each girl will also be reading and r ecording three kinder garten or 1st grade level volumes on CD as audiobooks. These are to be donated along with the companion book to the town and school libraries. Those who would like to donate gently used books for this project may deposit them in drop boxes a t N orth Warren C entral School, the Chester Town Hall and Hudson Headwaters Health Center in Chestertown.
