NORTH CREEK — Recent flooding has claimed six area jobs. North C reek Woodworking, f ounded i n 1 988,

will not be reopening its doors, the businesses coowner Dale Aldrich said. When Aldrich left the plant on a late April evening, there were four to five inches of water on the floor , he said. When he r eturned the next morning, ther e wer e 25 inches of water on the floor, eventually rising to 30-35 inches.

The flood caused $50,000-$100,000 in damage to the business, Aldrich estimated. “There was no way we could start it back,” Aldrich said. Dry-kiln lumber , ripsaws, planers, moulders, sanders, chopsaws, and conveyers were all See WOODWORKING, page 7

In Long Lake

Residents remove rubbish By John Grybos

jgrybos@denpubs.com LONG LAKE — A list of items like aluminum foil, cigarettes, steel nails and tires might be satisfied at a department stor e, but the town of Long Lake was litter ed with such items befor e Community Pride Day May 11. “We found everything fr om bottles to cans to just trash people just thr ow out of their car ,” said Douglas Blodgett, who helped with the cleanup ef fort and filled three trash bags in the process. Participants met at the skate center and were assigned a road to clean with a partner. Shirts were passed out and put on for some photos, then participants got their hands dirty cleaning up their community. More than 50 people turned out for the event, which Alexandra Roalsvig, director of events for Long Lake, said was a big improvement over the two who turned out for the first year.

All we’re doing is trying to make things look a little better around town for when people come for summer, and for our own benefit.

— Douglas Blodgett

The event was pushed back a week, Roalsvig said, because of flooding prior to the event followed by a rainy day . To get maximum turnout, the cleanup was scheduled for better weather. Students and faculty of Long Lake Central Elementary pitched in, too, with staf f members cleaning up Route 28N, which the school had adopted. Students helped out at Jennings Pond and the Nature Trail. See LONG LAKE, page 9
