Artisan cooperative finds a home in Long Lake By Lindsay Yandon
lindsay@denpubs.com LONG LAKE — Over thirty artists and crafter ’s living and working in Long Lake have become part of a new eff ort to establish a cooperative group to support local artists and crafts people.

An artisan’s cooperative has been in the works amoung many r esidents for quite some time, accor ding to founding member Chuck Taylor. The momentum built this winter and the gr oup was launched this spring. Founding members and planning committee members include, Ca leb Davis, Louisa Austin
Woodworth, Chuck T aylor, Sally Neenan, Laurinda Minke and Christine LaRocque. Members of the group also include 5th and 6th generation guideboat builders, painters, woodworkers, photographers and more. The Long Lake Artisan’s Cooperative will foster the pr esentation and r ecognition of local arts and
crafts as a vital part of Adirondack cultural heritage and the economy , according to Taylor. The group hopes to encourage creative expr ession and education through exhibitions of its member’s works, demonstrations, workshops and classes. See ART, page 4

slavery in various markets all over the world. “If all of us work together , we can r eally make the world a better place,” said Marra. “Even though we live in a remote part of New York, we know that it is a part of the state that has historically been active in abolition and anti-slavery movements.” They mentioned their personal experiences in Reverse Trick-or-Treating and a V alentine’s Day campaign, which both spread the word about child and slave labor involved in making the chocolates we love.

NORTH CREEK — There will be an educational grantsmanship workshop Wednesday, May 4 at the Copperfield Inn in North Creek and Tuesday, May 10 at the Schr oon Town Hall.
