Fate of Thomas the Tank weekend uncertain

lindsay@denpubs.com NORTH CREEK — Negotiations have been dragging on between W arren County and Iowa Pacific Holdings since December in hopes that a new train operator will soon take over the rail line between North Creek and Corinth and beyond. Iowa Pacific is inter ested in conducting a tourist and fr eight operation on the lines, servicing the towns along the r oute from North Creek to Saratoga. Despite pr evious deadlines, if an agr eement is reached in the next few weeks, the lines could be operational by summer , accor ding to W arren County supervisors. “We ar e dealing with multiple elements,” said Johnsburg Supervisor Sterling Goodspeed. “We are still number cr unching and working the pr oposal through.” Iowa Pacific submitted a pr oposal in November after Upper Hudson River Railr oad’s contract expired and was denied renewal by the county after See RAIL, page 11

BRANT LAKE — Soon after he was paralyzed in a fr eak logging accident about 12 years ago, Scott Remington decided that he wasn’t going to sit in a wheelchair the r est of his life and wait for other people to work towards a cure for paralysis. Scott and his sister , Renee, and their friends made some calls and launched a fundraiser that became an annual event. Since then, the event has become one of the lar gest fundraisers in the nation of its type to combat paralysis — having raised mor e than $350,000 in 11 years.
