teah@denpubs.com SARANAC Ñ Jan Couture, the Town of Saranac historian, will host the History of Saranac Tour April 26 in commemoration of five Saranac residents who helped capture John Wilkes Booth. Led by Judge Advocate Joseph Holt, the five area Civil War soldiers Ñ David Baker, Godfrey Phillip Hoyt, Martin Kelly, Lewis Savage and Abram Snay Ñ and the other Ò LincolnÕ s AvengersÓ tracked down Booth after he murdered Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865. By Teah Dowling teah@denpubs.com PLATTSBURGH Ñ A local group is working to bring awareness to illiteracy and meet the educational needs of students in Africa. The Program for African Growth through Education, Incorporated, or PAGE, Inc., is helping to build a school in the West African country of Burkina Faso. “We were moved to do this first personally because I come from this country,Ó PAGE board president Jean OuŽ draogo said. Ò I feel a sense of responsibility in a way to, within the limits of my own ability, give back and try to provide a space for those who might not get that second chance.Ó The Plattsburgh-based group is also led by vice president Mohamed Djerdjouri, secretary Robert Ackland, treasurer Eileen Barns, outreach and marketing officer Marguerite Adelman. PAGE continues to build their new school to meet the educational needs of students in Burkina Faso.
