Ten years after the World Trade Center towers were destroyed in a terrorist attack, a memorial service at Hawkins Pond remembered the tragedy. The SUNY Plattsburgh ROTC Color Guard placed the flags for the ceremony, and speakers including Congressman Bill Owens spoke about the effects of the attacks then and now. Kim Provost was named superintendent of public works for the Village of Dannemora Sept. 7. Photo by John Grybos
DANNEMORA — The village boar d cr eated and filled the position of superintendent of public works in two quick motions, pr omoting Kim Provost to the post Sept. 7. Provost is a lifelong ar ea resident, and has worked with the village for the last 11 years, starting at the wastewater plant as an operator . When room for him opened up at the town garage, Pr ovost transferred over. There, he worked under the recently-retired Thomas Tripp.
Provost said he’s learned plenty about village maintenance fr om Tripp, and won't stop asking for advice now that he's been promoted. “I'm still picking his brain,” said Provost. He said he doesn't expect to increase his work load too much. “We have an outstanding crew. I've got some young guys working for me that I can't say enough about,” said Provost. Village Mayor Michael Bennett said the new title won't make for big changes in Provost's day-to-day duties.
“He's alr eady been doing the job,” Bennett said. “The new title is something of a technicality.” The board had to pick out a job title that fit Provost's skill set. W ith knowledge of both water and highway operations, superintendent of public works fit and was appr oved by the village. Bennett said Provost runs an efficient crew that completes pr ojects much faster than expected. Pr ovost's wealth of knowledge in public works has saved the village from calling expensive contractors, Bennett said.
