Doing it all for Josh The North Country turned out in great support for a benefit for 15-year-old Josh LaFountain of Chazy Aug. 29. The benefit, which included an auction led by Jeff Rigsbee, pictured here, helped raise money for Josh’s medical expenses. Josh was diagnosed with Wegener’s disease, very rare, incurable autoimmune disease and is in need of a kidney transplant. Those interested in being tested to become a kidney donor may contact the transplant coordinator at Fletcher Allen at 1-802-847-4291. Donations for Josh may be arranged by contacting Debbie Dragoon at 493-3120. Photo by Jeremiah S. Papineau

ROUSES POINT — Greta Browne’s journey has come to an end. The 65-year-old grandmother from Bethlehem, Pa., completed a 1,200-mile walk along U.S. Route 11 from New Orleans, La., to Rouses Point Aug. 29, all in the name of bringing awareness to rapid climate change brought on by global warming. Donning a T-shirt with the words “Walking for the Climate,” Browne set out March 14, determined to be a “walking billboard,” as she described herself, to bring about awareness to her mission through an unconventional way.

“I was very upset to read about the terrible catastrophes that could occur if we don’t get carbon emissions — our greenhouse gases — under control soon,” Browne said of her motivation for walking. “These will effect my grandchildren and all the children in the world.” “What we need is a consensus in this country that global warming is important, that climate change is urgent and the citizenship of the country needs to support the measures that will address this,” she continued. Browne said she picked the Gulf Coast as a starting point because it is one the
