Christopher Belair, chairman of the department’s board of fire commissioners, said a 40 ft. by 60 ft. addition has been under construction since June to give the department additional space for its fleet of vehicles and increase space for dayto-day operations. “We mainly wanted the expansion because we have a number of pieces of equipment that are stored outdoors during the winter,” said Belair. “We wanted to eliminate that because we don’t want them to get ruined. Jaden Allen and Kayla Wood ride side by side on the antique carousel at the 156th annual Redford Picnic Aug. 21 at Church of the Assumption in Redford. The 1890s ArmitageHerschell carousel has been a long-standing feature of the picnic since it was donated to the Church of Assumption in 1910, and is only seen by the public during the annual picnic. The carousel maintains its 24 original carved wooden horses and four sleighs and is believed to be the oldest working one if its kind in North America. Unfunded and underfunded mandates include legal requirements that a local district provide a program, project, or activity on behalf of the state or federal governments.
