By Shaun Kittle shaun@denpubs.com PLATTSBURGH —The United Way of the Adirondack Region, Inc. raised most of its campaign goal for 2012.

Even though they fell short—the campaign brought in $736,250, that’s $38,750 less than the goal of $775,000—United Way volunteers said that isn't anything to be ashamed of.

Keeping kids from catching the mid-winter blues

PLATTSBURGH — A mid-winter afternoon at the Champlain Valley Transportation Museum seems cold and eeriely quiet from the outside.

Step inside the buildings, however, and there’s a stark contrast: excited, interested children making use of the long winter months.

On Saturday, Feb. 16, a group of eight kids learned about the “science of snow”—that is, imitation snow created through a mix of water and polymer—and what happens when it reacts with basic household items like vinegar.

There were robots, too, and even a snow catapult.

These days of learning are part of a series dubbed “Science Saturdays,” aimed at keeping kids’ minds active as the chilling winter cold tends to force them indoors, while temptation gives way to less-stimulating activities such as television or video games.

Artist Gharan Burton: Artassination and the abstract human form

His latest exhibition, Artassination, is the culmination of that experimentation, and is on display at ROTA Gallery through March 4.

“As an artist I like to be more creative than to just copy what I see,” Burton said. “I try to create art instead of just rendering what’s before me.”

Burton’s sculptures have a natural, polished look while his paintings contain a lot of exuberant colors, “texture and tension,” he said.

The colors and textures are applied using a knife and can readily be seen by simply looking at the pieces, but the tension, he said, is more in terms of color theory.

If Burton uses a certain color in a painting, like orange, he will deliberately use blue, its compliment.

The effect is a startling burst of color and an uncanny sense of unity within the image.

As refined as his work is, it is surprising that Burton hasn’t always pursued art.

His original career path was computer science—he has a degree in the field from Midwestern State University in Texas, but left it

behind when he discovered painting abut 10 years ago.

The change was dramatic, one Burton said he has never regretted.

But then again, he always seems to be willing to move forward.

After he began painting Burton made another discovery—sculpting—a form that soon became his favorite.

His sculptures range in size from about a foot high to more than six feet tall.

To create the sculptures he uses wood he

finds and prefers white oak because it’s hard and polishes well.

“I try to be simple with the material and carve out the negative space,” Burton said.

“It isn’t always planned, it just comes together.”

Callanach to perform at Upper Jay Art Center

shaun@denpubs.com UPPER JAY — Celtic rock band Callanach will perform at the Upper Jay Art Center on Saturday, Feb. 23.

The band’s name is a Gaelic word meaning “loud,” but Ryan Rovito said that doesn’t translate into abrasive.

“I like music that can change my mood,” Rovito said.

“This will be a very high energy show.”

The Rochester quintet will utilize drums, bass, fiddle, banjo and guitars to produce that energy, and Rovito said dancing is a common by product of their songs.

The show will begin at 8 p.m.

The band mostly plays and there is a $10 suggested originals, but some listendonation to attend. Their song "Irish Pubs" was recently nominated for "Best Celtic Rock Song in 2012" by the Celtic Radio Music Awards.

It is currently in the top three running, and listener votes will determine the outcome.

“Everyone who attends this Saturday should expect dancing,” Rovito said. “Making that happen is always our goal.”

The camps, located at Camp Colby, Pack Forest, Debruce, and Rushford, provide a great opportunity to learn more about our environment and to have fun in the summer. Dashnaw is battling cancer and her family needs help covering medical expenses.

Restaurants and businesses can help by donating items for the Chinese auction portion of the benefit.

Others can help by attending the event, which goes from noon until 5 p.m.

Cabin Fever Beach Party heats up the winter

shaun@denpubs.com PLATTSBURGH — Winter is the perfect season for throwing a beach party, and the Strand Theatre is the perfect venue to enjoy music, food and fun.

On Saturday, Feb. 23, it will all come together when the North Country Cultural Center for the Arts holds the fourth annual Cabin Fever Beach Party fundraiser.

Battle of Plattsburgh Association to hold essay contest PLATTSBURGH — The Battle of Plattsburgh Association, Adirondack Bank, and the Key Foundation, in cooperation with the North Country Teacher Recourse Center, are sponsoring an essay contest to explore local history and the critical battle of the War of 1812 that occurred in the Champlain Valley.

The contest is open to all students grade 4 through 12.

Prizes will be awarded in each of the three grade levels: 4-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Each grade level will be awarded three prizes as follows: first prize is $200, second prize is $100, third prize is $50.

To enter the essay contest a student may request an entry form and instructions by contacting the Battle of Plattsburgh Association at 566-1814 or emailing manager@battleofplattsburgh.org. They go to the War of 1812 Museum, 31 Washington Road. The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Get serious ... please!

A night on the town L in Plattsburgh L

ast Saturday, my fiance and I decided it was time to take a break from our busy schedules and enjoy a night out. So we got dressed up and later found ourselves perusing antiques, checking out an art exhibition and eating a deliciously dynamic meal of Bhutanese food.

In the mood for more, we visited a coffee shop before going to hear some live music. The venue was packed with people who were drinking, laughing and casually dancing to the rockin’ blues blaring from the speakers.

The band didn’t miss a beat, and neither did we.

It sounds like a night out on the town, and it was. But the best part is, we didn’t have to leave town at all—this was a night out in Plattsburgh.

At the North Countryman, we certainly understand the need to leave town and visit other places—we do it all the time. Let’s be honest, who can resist the adventure of the Adirondacks, or the culture of Montreal, or the liveliness of Burlington?

More often than not, though, we are finding that a sampling of the things that draw people to those destinations, to which Plattsburgh is a central location, are springing up downtown. This is not by accident. There are some among us who can visit such places and, instead of asking why Plattsburgh doesn’t have those things, they instead wonder how those things can be brought to Plattsburgh.

It is a slight shift in perspective indeed, but it is important to acknowledge as it carries with it significant ramifications.

We have mentioned in previous editorials that it’s tempting to spin ideas that are intended to revitalize Plattsburgh as pipedreams. It’s also dangerously easy to look back on unfulfilled promises made 30 years ago, 20 years ago, 2 years ago, and see hopelessness for the future. Perhaps it is time to instead start being thankful that not everyone in the area is satisfied with the easy road, and to begin looking to how much has been accomplished in just the last few years.

But don’t take our word for it. This weekend, give Plattsburgh a chance.

Grab your sweetheart, your children or your friends and spend some time downtown. Check out some of the unique, locally owned shops and have dinner at one of the many affordable and wonderfully diverse restaurants.

If you have money to spare, you can be part of the NCCCA’s Cabin Beach Party fundraiser at the Strand on Saturday night, but if you’re on a budget, no worries. You can see plenty of local art for free at the North Country Cultural Center for the Arts, ROTA Gallery or ROTA’s off-site gallery, the Champlain Wine Company. There are plenty of opportunities for live music, too.

The bottom line is, Plattsburgh needs the support of its people to continue growing. Every dollar spent downtown is an investment in the future of the city we call home. The need to argue the benefits of art in a community ceases to be necessary when people participate and experience it first hand. It is something to be a part of, something to get excited about and, at the end of the day, it is also something to be proud of.

The president knows that the divided Congress may not fall in line behind any of his priorities, specifically mentioning climate change, but said he'd move forward with or without their support.

“If Congress won't act soon to protect future generations, I will,” Obama said. “I will direct my cabinet to come up with executive actions we can take now, and in the future, to reduce pollution, prepare our communities for the consequences of climate change and speed the transition to more sustainable sources of energy.”

These and more comments were made to a sustained standing ovation from Democrats in the chamber while Republicans and Speaker Boehner sat silent.

The president’s speech lasted long enough that by the time Sen. Rubio appeared for his rebuttal, I, like many others, had long fallen asleep. According to media reports the next morning the only thing they wanted to cover was his groping awkwardly for a quick drink of water. Rubio made it clear that while the president doesn’t believe we can create a path for prosperity by cutting spending, he and the Republicans do not believe we can tax our way to economic growth. Thus gridlock is safely preserved for yet another term as our political representatives do their best to pit citizen against citizen.

Sadly, it seems no one in Washington is prepared to get down to business and find the common ground that requires both spending cuts and tax overhauls. Neither side seems ready to do anything more than grandstand and place blame on the other side, while we see costs and debts on the rise and the economy continue to struggle. It’s time we all contact our representatives on both sides of the aisle and say: “Get serious….please! For all our sakes!”

ast week we witnessed the annual drawing of the battle lines during the State of the Union Address presented by President Obama with rebuttals from Senators Rubio and Paul. Our political system continues its dysfunctional method of running the country. It seems in unison with the national media, once known for being the watchdogs of political shortcomings. Instead, the national media continues to be ineffective in its role to police ill-mannered, self-serving political figures. One has to wonder how much more of this behavior we can tolerate.

Republican Sen. Rand Paul gave the Tea Party rebuttal 12 hours before the president delivered his speech. Paul’s speech was sarcastic and ended with a call for the president to be tried for treason and banished from the country. Comparing the president’s not-yet-given speech to one worthy of Iran President Ahmadinejad, Sen. Paul called the speech: “Full of empty promises and bald-faced lies we’ve come to expect from President Obama who tonight made a case for his own impeachment.” Obviously Sen. Paul is not a fan of Dale Carnegie’s book: “How to Win Friends and Influence People.”

Sen. Paul’s prebuttal was preceeded earlier in the day when Speaker of the House Boehner made the comment; “I don’t think he (President Obama) has the guts to do it. He doesn’t have the courage to take on the liberal side of his own party – never has.” In fact, the speaker said, judging by the tone and tenor during the Inaugural Address: “I would expect tonight to be more partisan.”

The president, for his part, didn’t leave his critics without cause to cry and lament. He laid out plans for debt reduction, tax code overhaul, enhanced job creation, minimum wage, climate control, immigration reform, education improvements, defense and foreign trade. His big bully-pulpit ended with examples of families affected by gun violence in the audience, as he challenged members of the Congress and Senate repeatedly with: “They deserve a vote.”

The president called for cuts to spending on things like education, job training, Medicare and Social Security benefits to reduce the deficit.

“Deficit reduction alone is not an economic plan,” Obama said. He also recycled a frequently used phrase from the past, assuring the nation none of this would cost the country a “single dime.”

These comments need to be taken seriously and for the bravest of sorts, inquired about.

So, how do you find balance? Remember the four components of health and wellness: mental, emotional, physical, and social/spiritual. Small changes can be easily incorporated into your

daily routine and have the ability to decrease stress and the feeling of being overwhelmed. Wake up 15 minutes earlier each day and put your “to do” list together which, with planning, can easily tackle all four areas. For example; being outside in nature can reinvigorate your senses, 15 minutes of exercise can boost your energy, coffee with a friend can clarify and lighten your worries, and some real “alone” time can put your busy mind on break.

Take careful stock of your approach to work, as this is your livelihood. Ask yourself the following questions: Do I know my priorities and communicate regularly with my superiors? Do I follow-up and take projects from start to finish? Do I take on more than I can realistically manage? Am I frequently distracted? If you are distracted or pulled in many directions, set daily, realistic

goals with time frames for attention to specific tasks. Honest communication is key to best performance by all staff members.

Even though you feel that work and home life are a juggling act, it behooves you to not mix the two. Leave the worries and drama of each in the place it belongs! That way, you are truly present in the work or life at hand.

Mooers Library on the move

To the North Countryman: The Mooers Free Library is looking forward to a move in the not too distant future to a new facility complete with a Community Room for anyone interested in holding a meeting or a class for the general public. Although plans are still incomplete pending the approval of the location site, the excitement of improving the library facility is growing.

It is no secret that libraries are changing their focus to keep their doors open. Many libraries have increased their offerings beyond the traditional shelves of books. Mooers Library is proud to be able to promote a large book collection and also many other services to patrons. The library has a large collection of movies and music; large print books along with books on tape and CDs. The building offers WIFI for research on your computer or computer access in a comfortable environment. Many services are available through the CEF Library System. The popular method of ordering books from libraries for delivery via van makes it possible to read your favorite new book or view a video at home. Then return your book or video to your hometown library and the rest is done for the patron.

Along with many programs for children, the library offers e-books for patrons to download. Soon many of the magazines will be available as e-editions. It is important for the future to keep up with all new developments and services available for all. Stop by your library and get acquainted with all the new services for everyone. Talk with your librarian about the services and ask about tax forms that can be downloaded and research for jobs or help with resumes. Libraries are evolving with the times — stop by and be part of this exciting time at your local free public library. Don’t forget to use the WII and make use of the movies that can be shown to all.

To the North Countryman: Citing no specific evidence Dan Alexander tells us that discrimination in the work place against women is no big problem. The big problem he says are government laws prohibiting unequal pay for equal work. These regulations, he says, are a drag on business enterprise, on self-sufficiency, on the development of our children's character and on much else. Hence the elegant title of his editorial: "America: Land of Mediocrity". Hence also his equally thoughtful suggestion that if you think you are underpaid find yourself another job. Assuming, I suppose he means but doesn't say, if these days you can find it.

This wisdom is supported by what Mr. Alexander summarizes as his vast experience in the business world. Actually, to add a little reality to his experience, women's wages still lag behind those of men by about 20 percent. The figures differ from one to another industry or profession and from one to another region and state. Since these are median figures you know there are pockets of enterprise where women fare even worse. So the U.S. Bureau of Statistics tells us and so does the U.S. Census --no feminist mouthpieces these. But since Mr. Alexander probably distrusts government statistics, let me cite from a recent issue of the very conservative Forbes Magazine, voice of large business corporations: according to a 2012 study, Forbes reports: "Full-time, yearround women workers earn and average of $36,931 compared to men's $47,715 --or 76 cents to every dollar earned."

You do have to wonder what put this particular bee in Mr. Alexander's bonnet. He complains that the government requires you to fill out forms, proving your business doesn't discriminate. Well how much time can that take? Some smart secretary can't do it in a couple of hours? Or one of the guys that do all the journalism? Or is that the rub?

Dan Alexander believes profoundly in free enterprise unburdened by government regulations. That's his privilege.

So is acquiring a small rural newspaper and using it to broadcast his personal views across the countryside. Its not exactly what our forefathers meant by a free press. Nor is "find yourself another job" what the 14th Amendment means by "equal protection of the laws." But never mind. What some of us would like from the Valley News is fewer mediocre editorials and a little more varied opinion.

Women Voters mark anniversary To the North Countryman: As we mark the 93rd birthday of the League of Women Voters (LWV), we congratulate and celebrate ONE BILLION RISING, its work to curb violence against women, and the devoted and dedicated women who have joined the effort, founded 15 years ago by Eve Ensler, to stop violence against women and girls.

It is important to note that ninety-three years ago, 14 February 1920, suffragist Carrie Chapman Catt founded our great organization to advocate for women’s suffrage. After decades of advocacy, and a mere six months after the founding of the League of Women Voters, Chapman Catt, League members, and women across the country saw their dream realized with the passage of the 19th Amendment.

But today, 93 years after the League was founded to help democratize the right to vote, the voting rights of many Americans are at dire risk. Later this month, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear a case that questions the constitutionality of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) of 1965. The thought that the Supreme Court might soon overturn the Voting Rights Act of 1965 should send a chill down the spine of every American. The League believes we should be expanding voting rights, not curtailing them, and working to make elections free, fair, and accessible to all eligible citizens.

Membership in the League is open to men and women of all ages.

Our local LWV is one of nearly 800 groups in all 50 states We respect all points of view and never support or oppose candidates for office or political parties. It is this that sets us apart from so many organizations, and it is why we welcome new volunteers to join us in our work.

The tradition of celebration

O

n Saturday, Feb. 23, residents of Saranac Lake will again be joined by visitors from across the region to help carry on a spirit of celebration that has kept a festive atmosphere alive in the community for several weeks.

The event will be the Third Annual Musicians Unite for North County Food Pantries, and it will be hosted at the Adirondack Carousel on the corner of Depot St. and Bloomingdale Avenue beginning at 10:45 a.m. The all-day, family-friendly, free concert will include over a dozen acts ranging from folk to blues to rock, and even a bagpiper!

It’s certain to be a good time, and it’s certainly for a good cause, as proceeds from the concert will benefit food pantries in Saranac Lake, Vermontville, Brighton, and Duane. Attendees may bring donations of cash and/or non-perishable foods.

Actually, Saturday’s event will be another in a long line of parties that Saranac Lake first began hosting over a century ago.

The recent 115th Annual Winter Carnival was just the latest in a long and proud heritage of celebrations that first began with efforts to help tuberculosis patients, aka ‘lungers’ deal with being cooped up indoors for long periods of time. The aliment was also known as the winter blues, or cabin fever.

There is no doubt that Saranac Lakers enjoy a good celebra-

tion, and they certainly know how to throw a party. The strange hereditary trait may have been inherited from a time when the village hosted the cure industry, and it was known as the ‘City of Second Chance.’

Despite the source of the spirit, there’s no doubt it continues to foster a lingering notion of community celebration that remains alive to this day. Or it may simply have come from a need to keep moving to stay warm in a mountain town that receives regular notoriety for being ranked as the coldest location in the nation.

In recent years, the peaceful community has been somewhat overshadowed by their neighbors down the line in Lake Placid, in terms of an overall capacity to consistently party hardy.

Admittedly, weekend visitors tend to lend a hand in enhancing Lake Placid’s reputation as a party town. As everyone knows, it’s always easy to let your hair down, when you’re from out of town.

Back in the 1930’s and ‘40’s when Saranac Lake’s population included several thousand temporary residents ‘taking the cure’, there were over 25 bar rooms in operation, and there were likely many others that served drinks under the table.

During the Prohibition era, there were many adventurers who traveled north to Canada for a ‘ fishing’ expedition’. Although they often neglected to bring along rods, reels, tackle, or creels, the spacious trunk of their Packard was usually filled to capacity on the return trip. Conveniently, the village was located along a route popular with bootleggers, who regularly spirited spirits

Following the repeal of prohibition in 1932, the bar trade returned to Saranac Lake in a big way.

At the time, there was little else to offer TB’ers in terms of entertainment, and most patients were required to spend their time in bed, or lounging on a cure porch.

Radio was limited and television was not yet available. As a result, TB patients, also known as ‘consumptives,’ often utilized the consumption of alcohol to satisfy their entertainment needs.

With a long held tradition of sharing both their celebrations and compassion with neighbors and visitors alike, it’s no wonder Saranac Lake has been ranked among The 100 Best Small Towns in America, no. 1 in New York, and no. 11 in the USA. And for those brave souls who dare to venture off for a late night, bar-hopping expedition through the town, it’s easy to understand why National Geographic Adventure Magazine ranked Saranac Lake among the 100 Best Adventure Towns in America.

United Way from page 1 Executive Director of United Way of the Adirondack Region. “We do anticipate that we will be able to substantially meet the health and human service needs at a similar level to past years, and for that we’re very proud,” Those service needs include 41 health and humanservice organizations in Clinton, Essex and Franklin counties, whose agencies provide help to about 80,000 people throughout the region each year.

“I always prayed that we would be able to meet the needs of the North Country and at 95 percent, that’s what we got,” said Gayle Alexander, the 2013 Campaign Chair.

Dan Alexander, the 2009 Campaign Chair, said several factors, such as a sluggish economy and 2012’s looming fiscal cliff, might have contributed to the United Way falling short of its goal, but that those things were just evidence of a greater good amongst North Country citizens.

“This perhaps may compare to an overwhelmingly greater amount of generosity from people this year than in past years,” Mr. Alexander said. “The amount that was raised in this economy is an overwhelming

success.”

The United Way has been collecting donations and distributing 100 percent of them to various local agencies and charities since 1949.

Since so many organizations need help, there is an extensive process to allocating the funds.

Some donations are designated by donors to go directly toward specific agencies but other funds, like the community impact fund, are available to partner agencies on a competitive basis.

A volunteer board of community members reviews applications for funding and makes a recommendations to the United Way Board of Directors, who makes the final decisions.

“In many respects, that’s what makes the United Way so unique,” Bernardi said. “There are so many levels of accountability and impact for the community, and every dollar is used for its intended purpose.”

Bernardi said that another unique benefit of donating to the United Way is that donors can contribute via payroll deductions.

Many smaller agencies and charities don’t have the resources to offer that service.

The benefit, Bernardi said, is that it might be easier for someone to give $10 a week than to give $500 in one lump sum.

Bernardi said mental health is one that has needed assistance most in recent years.

Dale Anne Wolter, who co-leads the Champlain Valley Chapter of the Compassionate Friends with her friend, Sophie Mitsglou, echoed the need for more funding for mental health services.

The group helps family members who have experienced the death of a child deal with grief in a positive way.

“I’m so used to fundraising now, but when you lose a child, those are funds you don’t want to raise,” Wolter said.

Both Wolter and Mitsglou have lost a child in a car accident, and they helped each other go through the grieving process.

They have been involved with Compassionate Friends for about 15 years, and Woltner began volunteering for the United Way about 3 years ago.

Now, she said her own group is able to receive the money it needs and she is able to reach out further into her community.

“I had no idea of the vastness of how the United Way helps people,” Woltner said. “I now understand the number of other agencies that also need help, so we can better budget for Compassionate Friends and help get everyone the funding they need.”

It’s there that one can find Flynn, who explained the origins of the event.

“We always said you could run a fun run Snowball, a series of free or every single week for the entire year, and low-cost events, runs until the people would come, so we thought, ‘all end of February. Bonn explained that they’ve been able to run the event on a very tight budget, and they rely on funds and donations from the community to make it happen.

Without these winter “extravaganzas,” as Flynn called them, we won’t have kids like Max doing what they do best—finding the silver lining among the gray winter clouds, and having fun doing it.

It worked, too. One participant, second grader Max Schaefer, begged his mother for permission to go outside to see what would happen if he mixed the polymer with real snow.

The children weren’t just there to learn about science, though.

On the other end of the winter-fun spectrum was the brainchild of the Clinton County Youth Bureau and the Town of Plattsburgh—a quarter-mile long obstacle course which consisted of plastic shed roofs, tractor tires, and a wooden frame containing a rather complex-looking assortment of bungee cords.

The project was completed for just $800 by using felled trees and items from the old Plattsburgh Air Force Base and was spearheaded by Clinton County Youth Bureau Director Molly Flynn, who has built a positive reputation in working with children.

“Molly is the kind of person who can say, ‘Let’s count paper clips!’ and get 50 kids to do it,” Bonn said.

Airborne releases its 2013 schedule SOUTH PLATTSBURGH — Airborne Speedway’s 2013 stock car racing schedule is comprised of 20 events beginning with its 60 Anniversary season opener, the Charley Trombley Memorial 60 for Ernie’s Discount Tools DIRTcar Modifieds, presented by Econo Lodge Saturday, May 4.

The American Canadian Tour (ACT) Fall Foliage 200, the Late Model tour ’s final points race, closes out the season on Saturday, Sept. 28.

The DIRTcar Modifieds and the ACT Late Models will be in action on the biggest weekend of racing ever held at the Plattsburgh half-mile for the International 500, Saturday, Sunday July 20 and 21. The two-day event also includes Airborne’s Sportsman Modified, Renegade and Mini Modified divisions.

The second annual Key RD Trailer Sales Renegade 100 is slotted for Memorial Day weekend Saturday, May 25.

The North Country’s largest fireworks show and a full race

card are slated for Saturday, June 29. The following Saturday, July 6, Airborne hosts the USA/Canadian Limited Late Model 60-lap Challenge.

The Northeast Midget Association (NEMA) Midgets and the NEMA Lites will make their first Airborne appearance in over 40 years Aug. 3.

“I believe the two-day International 500 event is going to be huge,” promoter Mike Perrotte said. “The purses total over $100,000. There will be a lot of race teams and fans traveling to Plattsburgh from north of the border and from all over New England. It will give our Modifieds a lot of exposure. I’m also pleased with the growth of our Sportsman Modified class. This is their second year and it’s looking like we’ll have over 20 teams competing weekly.”

The final points event of the season for all Airborne divisions, the Mike Watts Memorial Championship weekend, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 31 and Sunday, Sept. 1.

Chamber music ensemble to romp stage

KEENE VALLEY — A contemporary chamber music ensemble “The Artesia” will perform at 8 p.m. on Feb. 22 at the Keene Valley Congregational Church, 1791 NYS Route 73. The event is presented by the East Branch Friends of the Arts.

The show is sure to be a joyous romp through some of history’s most beautiful and treasured chamber music plus new works by living composers, featuring soprano hornist Ann Ellsworth with pianist Ellen Hwangbo and Marianne Gythfeldt on clarinet.

The event is free and open to the public, though a $10 donation is suggested, and students may attend free. For more information call 576-4329.

SARANAC LAKE — Local musicians will play for the third annual Musicians Unite for Local Food Pantries at the Carousel. The event is a free all day concert with a variety of different sounds. There is no charge but please make donations of cash or food are suggested.
