Here’s some advice from our staff at Denton Publications: From Publisher Dan Alexander: You are graduating at what may likely be a pivotal and difficult time in the history of our country, given the global financial climate and technology advancement that are changing the cultural landscape. Those difficulties aside, your Godgiven talents, a good education, a solid work ethic and a never-say-die attitude will get you through any challenges life may throw at you. Unless you give up, your opportunities are only limited by a desire to set and achieve your goals.

Your entire life will be richer and more fulfilling for it.

As we have seen, there are many people who can use a helping hand. Find a cause that is close to your heart and serve. It can be a church or religious endeavor, a walk or fundraising event to help find a cure for cancer or ALS, spending time at a soup kitchen or an animal shelter.

The main thing is, be passionate about service to others, and you’ll find an increased passion for yourself, as well.

Russell, Gonyeau top Ti class TICONDEROGA — Ticonderoga High School Principal Michael Granny has announced the valedictorian and salutatorian for the Class of 2012.

This year ’s valedictorian is Brandon Russell, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Russell. Russell will attend Rochester Institute of Technology to major in engineering exploration.

Salutatorian this year is Joseph Gonyeau, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Gonyeau. Gonyeau will attend Siena College to major in business.

The remaining top 10 of the class includes the following: Christopher Burns is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Burns. Burns will attend the State University of New York at Potsdam to major in mechanical engineering.

Paige Hughes is the daughter of James Hughes and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Palandrani. Hughes will attend Manhattan College to major in communications.

Benjamin Karkoski is the son of Mary Beth Karkoski and Matthew Karkoski. Karkoski will attend the State University of New York at Potsdam to major in physics and engineering.

Cory King is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel King. King will attend Rochester Institute of Technology to major in engineering.

William Lawrie is the son of Ms. Lara Smith. Lawrie will attend Rochester Institute of Technology to major in mechanical engineering.

Titus, White top Crown Point class CROWN POINT — Crown Point Central School has named the valedictorian and salutatorian of the Class of 2012.

Marissa Titus, daughter of Patrick and Dawn Titus, is the valedictorian with a 98 average.

Her school activities include varsity soccer and basketball, National Honor Society, mentor, student council, SADD, Quiz Bowl and junior model. She was captain of both the soccer and basketball teams.

Titus has also volunteered for the SalMarissa Titus vation Army and local nursing home.

She will graduate with 30 college credits and plans to attend SUNY-Binghamton to major in biochemistry. She hopes to continue her education to become a doctor.

Hailey White, daughter of Amy LaVare, is the salutatorian of the Crown Point Class of 2012 with a 93 average.

Her school activities include National Honor Society, SADD, class officer, Quiz Bowl, varsity soccer Hailey White (captain), varsity softball and mentor.

She was captain of the soccer team.

White is the 2012 Distinguished Young Woman of Crown Point. She is also a volunteer for the Salvation Army.

She will graduate with 30 college credits and plans to attend the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital School of Radiology to become a radiologic technician.

Moriah Central School names class leaders PORT HENRY — Moriah Central School has named the leaders of its Class of 2012.

Andrew King, son of Kelly Ann King and Joseph Berman, is the valedictorian.

King is the National Honor Society chapter president this year after serving as vice president as a junior. He also has served as drama club president the past two years. He was vice president of the junior and senior classes.

He is a member of the National Honor Society, the drama club, the On Common Ground Theatre Troupe and Upward Bound. He was a cheerleader as a senior and played football as a freshman and sophomore.

Lowe, Filler lead Schroon class Cruickshank named top SCHROON LAKE — Schroon Lake Central School has named the leaders of its Class of 2012.

William Lowe is the valedictorian. Lowe is the son of Art and Linda Lowe.

While attending Schroon Lake Lowe played golf and soccer. He was a member of the National Honor Society. He participated in the school’s trout project, the chorus and drama club. He was senior class president.

Lowe plans to attend St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vt. Matthew Filler is the salutatorian. Filler is the son of Timothy and Sheryl Filler.

While attending Schroon Lake Filler played soccer,basketball and golf.

Filler plans to attend Word of Life Bible Institute or Cedarville University.

SCHROON LAKE — Mountainside Christian Academy has announced Sarah Nicole Cruickshank, the daughter of Mike and Julie Cruickshank of Ticonderoga, as the Class of 2012 Valedictorian.

Cruickshank, who has attended MCA for all of her school years, has been a model student consistently being on the high honor roll for all four quarters of each of her high school years.

She has won numerous academic awards including highest average for grades 9-12 as well as highest average in each Sarah Nicole Cruickshank of the major subjects.

She has also received merit awards in recognition of her exemplary character and behavior while at Mountainside and won first place for an essay she submitted to the New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health.

Cruickshank was involved in student council during her junior year as her class representative and for her senior year she was on the yearbook committee as chief editor. She participated in the MCA sports program and was a statistician for soccer, a starter in volleyball and both a starter and co-captain in girls basketball for which she received the Christian Character Award and MVP. Cruickshank has enjoyed helping out backstage during two of MCA’s drama productions, “The Best Christmas Present Ever” and “The Diary of Anne Frank.” In addition, she has volunteered her services at her church for both the Vacation Bible School program and nursery and at the Elks Club in Ticonderoga by packaging Christmas boxes. She has also worked summers in local establishments such as Ticonderoga’s McDonald’s and Hot Biscuit Diner and Northern Borne in Long Lake.

In the fall Cruickshank will attend the University at Albany to study biology in preparation for a medical degree as a physician’s assistant.

Top students at North Warren are headed toward success Jennifer Paris, Valedictorian

CHESTERTOWN — The North Warren Class of 2012 Valedictorian is Jennifer Paris, daughter of Kristen and Todd Paris of Pottersville.

For years, Jennifer has challenged herself with the most rigorous course work available, achieving “Most Outstanding” awards for her academics, most prominently in Mathematics, Science and Foreign Language for multiple years.

She has also been recognized with the Rube Goldberg Competition award, the United States Air Force Math & Science award, the Clarkson Leadership award, and an academic achievement award from Chestertown Rotary.

Her extra-curricular pursuits include varsity tennis, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Foreign Language Club, Newspaper Club and school drama productions. She has served in the leadership roles of team captain and as president of both FCA and Foreign Language Club.

Jennifer plans to pursue studies in Adventure Sports and Secondary Education, following a year at the Word of Life Bible Institute this fall.

Caitlin Kenney, Salutatorian

The Salutatorian of the North Warren Class of 2012 is Caitlyn Kenney, daughter of Anthony Kenney of Pottersville, and Cheri Kenney of Chestertown.

Talented both academically and artistically, Caitlyn has participated in the Rube Goldberg Competition, Newspaper Club and Foreign Language Club, as well as earning various honors, including the President’s Award for Academic Excellence. Area citizens can view her art in the form of a mural in the local health center ’s lobby.

Warrensburg High School announces its top 10 graduates WARRENSBURG — Maggie E. Danna, daughter of Laura and Steve Danna of Warrensburg, lis the Class of 2012 Valedictorian.

Maggie was the recipient of the Elmira Key Award and the St. Lawrence University Augsbury Award. She is a member of the senior National Honor Society, Academic Bowl, Senior Band, Senior Chorus, Master Singers and Drama Club. Athletically, Maggie has played Field Hockey and Tennis and she received the Scholar/Athlete Award. Maggie’s volunteer activities include peer mentoring, Up Yonda Farm and Music Ministry at St. Cecilia’s Church. Maggie will attend Middlebury College to study Environmental Science.

The Class of 2012 Salutatorian is John Eaton, son of Mary and Richard Eaton of Warrensburg. Jack is enrolled in the highly competitive New Visions Engineering Program.

Also, he was selected as the Business/ Education Scholar. Jack is a member of the Senior National Honor Society. Active in extracurricular activities, he played Varsity Soccer and served as the team captain. Jack has been a four-year member of the Senior Band and Jazz Band. Sean Daniel Burden, son of Dan and Bonita Burden of Lake George, is enrolled in the New Visions Engineering Program. He is involved in National Senior Honor Society and French Club. Sean has been the treasurer of his class since tenth grade, and is a captain of Lake George Drumline. He has also been involved in Natural Helpers, French Honor Society, and Junior Honor Society. In ad-

dition, Sean competed in a Robotics Competition at Clarkson University. He was a member of both JV and Varsity basketball and track teams, and has received a scholar-athlete award. Sean is a recipient of the U.S. Air Force Math/Science Award, as well as the R.I.T. Computing Medal Award. Sean enjoys volunteering for Relay for Life, Americade rally, and Karing for Kim. He also works at Adirondack Camping Village during the summers. Sean plans to pursue a degree in Applied Physics at a Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Hayley Margaret Humiston, daughter of Jim and Lori Humiston of Queensbury, is co-president of French Honor Society and French club. She is also a member of Senior Honor Society, and has participated in Students Against Destructive Decisions, Interact Club, Warren County Youth Court, Peer Counseling, the school band, and NYSSMA music competitions. She has been on the Varsity Volleyball team since late in her sophomore season, and has been an Adirondack League Second Team All-Star, was chosen for several All-Tournament teams and received a Scholar Athlete award. She has also played club volleyball during the winter and has played on the tennis team her freshman and senior years. She has received the Clarkson University Leadership Award, has attended the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Conference, and has volunteered with Warm the Children, Glamour Gals, and has participated in the Walk for Diabetes and Breast Cancer Walk. Hayley plans to major in Global Studies at St. Lawrence University as an Augsbury Scholar.

Jamie Susan-Grace Jarett, daughter of Patricia Jarett of Bolton Landing and Dr. Jeffrey Jarett of Queensbury, is a member of Senior Honor Society, Student Council, Spanish Honor Society, Astronomy Club, and treasurer of Varsity Club. Jamie plays saxophone in both the school band and the school jazz band, and has performed in All-County, NYSSMA, and the Northeast Music Festival. She is a member of the school’s varsity soccer and softball teams. Jamie volunteers in church activities, the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, and Randy’s Run. Jamie was the recipient of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Medal of Excellence, the University of Connecticut’s Presidential Scholarship, and the Marine Corps Math and Science Award. Jamie plans to pursue a degree in engineering at Binghamton University.

Rebecca Lynn Kandora, daughter of Thomas and Janine Kandora, is enrolled in New Visions Health Careers Explorations and has been inducted into the National Technical Honor Society. She has been an active member in Girl Scouts, completing her Bronze, Silver, and Gold award. Rebecca is also involved in Senior Honor Society, Varsity Club, French Club, Quiz Bowl, Jazz Band, and SADD. Rebecca plays the saxophone and has attended the Lake Placid Music Festival and NYSSMA music competition for multiple years.

She has played varsity soccer for four years and on the varsity softball team for three. Rebecca was also awarded Most Valuable Player for the Adirondack League for soccer, as well as area All-star for two years in a row and was awarded as a scholar-athlete. She is an active member at her church community, including singing in the choir. Rebecca has received the U.S. Air Force Math and Science Award, the University of Rochester’s Bausch & Lomb Scholarship, and the area Teen Excellence Award. Rebecca plans to pursue a career in the medical field at SUNY Stony Brook.

Johnsburg Central announces Top 10 for Class of 2012 Valedictorian Chelsea Gazaille

Chelsea Gazaille is President of the Sr. National Honor Society and has received a Scholarship J for academic excellence. She is Secretary of her senior class, a member of the JCS Senior band, head of the Marching Band Flag Corps, Vice President of the French club, a Youth & Government member, Varsity Tennis player and a JCS Mathlete club member. Two years ago, she participated in the school play Bye Bye Birdie and this year helped with hair and makeup for scenes in Beauty and the Beast. In April 2012, she flew to Ireland and France with the JCS English and French classes.

In her spare time she volunteers as an assistant dance instructor, helps with the Johnsburg Dollars for Scholars and works at Basil and Wicks Restaurant and Prospect Mountain Diner. In her senior year, Chelsea was the recipient for the Chelsea Gazaille Scholars’ Recognition Program which took place at the Desmond Hotel in May. Chelsea will graduate on June 23, 2012 with an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors. In the fall, she will enroll as a freshman at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. Due to her love of math and science, she will pursue a major in Architecture.

JCS French and English classes. She has volunteered for the Johnsburg Dollars for Scholars, the Volunteer Corps. and for her church.

Meghan applied and was accepted into the competitive New Visions Health Careers Exploration program for her senior year. This is a unique, yet very selective program, offered through the Southern Adirondack Educational Center for students who have taken rigorous academics and have solid outstanding grades. In addition to senior classes, she participated in clinical rotations at the Glens Falls Hospital and in various health fields.

NEWCOMB — The Newcomb Central School has selected Marlena Peter as the valedictorian and Rebecca Bolan as the salutatorian for the graduating Class of 2012.

Marlena Peter

Marlena Peter ’s parents are Eric Peter and Tami Riley. She plans to pursue a journalism/photojournalism career in the U.S. Navy. Her high school GPA is 93.3.

Peter is the secretary of the Newcomb Central chapter of the National Honor Society and the secretary of the Student Council. She was an active member of Youth and Government for four years, and she has held roles in four high school drama productions.

In sports, Peter played on the varsity soccer team as the longstanding goalie and returned in the spring to play varsity softball as a second-base all-star.

Peter ’s love of music has kept her actively involved in all the musical aspects at her school and beyond. She played euphonium in the high school Jazz Band, sang alto in the high school chorus and played in the school’s hand bell choir. She attended multiple music festivals.

Alyssa Marie Cuthbert has been a scholar athlete for the past two years, playing varsity soccer and being the team’s captain in grade 12.

Cuthbert was vice president of her class as a sophomore and president in her junior and senior years. She was active on the yearbook staff in grades 10-12 and has been on the honor roll with an attendance designation.

She won the Adirondack Teleworks student logo design contest and the Indian Lake Theater Best Close-up Photography contest, and her artwork has been accepted into the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts juried photography
