Rockingham Texas Hold’em Tournament
Rotary Helps Our Place Drop-In Center The Bellows Falls Rotary Club has made a grant of $890 to Our Place Drop-in Center to purchase food for meals and the food shelf. The grant was awarded to the club by Rotary District 7870, which is made up of 59 clubs in Vermont and New Hampshire. “This is part of Rotary’s mission of working locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger,” said Doreen Aldrich, the club’s president. “We are inspired by the great work being done at Our Place in this time of increasing need.” The funds will be used to help the center meet the needs of families in Athens, Grafton, Rockingham and Westminster in Vermont, and Walpole and North Walpole in New Hampshire. “We served 5,136 meals and provided for 1,030 families who accessed the food shelf during the year ending September 30,” said Susan Shea, Our Place director. “We’ve seen the need grow by about 25 percent between this year and last.”

Bring a bag supper, if you wish. The service will be led by the Rev. Kaye Hult along with Leslie Lassetter, also of Bellows Falls. The church is located at 8 School Street. Bellows Falls High School Students to Take Part in Amnesty International’s Global Write-A-Thon Bellows Falls Union High School World History II and World Cultures classes will be taking part in Amnesty International's Global Write-a-thon. Students will be choosing an individual who is currently imprisoned as a result of calling for human rights in their country and will be writing a letter in support of that person to their government or embassy. This is an international program that brings together writing skills with social and political issues around the world. The Global Write-a-thon raises
awareness about these human rights abuses and empowers individuals to take action against these violations. The Global Write-a-thon is a great way for individuals to have a positive impact on the lives of victims of human rights abuses around the world. December 10, International Human Rights’ Day, marks the anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). It is a day to stand in solidarity with human rights defenders around the world.
